What do you do with your child whilst you shower?

I used a walker but she's getting to big for it & trying to climb out, she's almost 1 & walking if that makes a difference. I know she will scream within 2 minutes if I put her in her cot!

high chair in the bathroom with me

Iceweasel · 28/06/2018 15:44

DS came in with me and sat in the bottom of the shower

Lazypuppy · 28/06/2018 16:22

At the moment she lies on her changing mat on the floor. But will eventually either have her in with me or in highchair like other posters have said.

I had a stair gate on the top of the stairs, so I used to shut all the bedroom doors and the stair gate and put some exciting toys out on the landing at that age.
Once I had two, I used to wait for DH to be home though Grin

2 year old, In his highchair watching telly.

anotherangel2 · 28/06/2018 17:20

Either bath with her or shower after she has gone to bed. Morning are too much of a rush.

corythatwas · 29/06/2018 12:35

I had one room that was child-safe and a safety gate on that. Saved a lot of trouble. m

When my DS was young he was in his bouncy chair in the bathroom with me, then he went into his high chair in the bathroom. Since he was about 16 months (he’s now 2) I pop him in his cot with toys and also with my laptop on a unit playing YouTube nursery rhymes (baby bloody shark etc!!)

EthelBeavers · 29/06/2018 12:56

Mine was a terrible cot hater too, would start wailing the minute you left the room. I used to just shower really quickly and dash back in to the cot when he was really little.

Once he was old enough it was the tablet and Postman Pat for a blessed 10 minutes of bathroom peace. Flashy/noisy toys are good too, toy steering wheels are amazing for keeping them occupied for ten minutes in a cot.

The other option is strapping them in the buggy with toys. They can hang out in the bathroom and you can get everything done around them. Hope it helps, I remember it being like a military operation.

prayerforasungod · 29/06/2018 13:15

I put them on the bathroom floor with chocolate.

prayerforasungod · 29/06/2018 13:15

I have no shame...

Rarotonga · 29/06/2018 22:05

Jumperoo in the bathroom. Now I have travel cot in the bathroom with a treasure basket and exciting things. I sometimes play nursery rhymes too.

When he was a baby I would grab a shower while Dh has breakfast before work so he could watch him. In the end, I found it easier to get up before my son and have a shower and a joyous hot cup of tea. It meant setting my alarm for 6am everyday but it was worth it as I was up and ready by the time he woke up. Although this is all messed up at the moment with this heatwave as he's been going to sleep sooo late Confused

happymummy12345 · 29/06/2018 22:13

I either shower when dh is here, but he works long hours so most of the time I'm here on my own. I shower once ds is in bed.

GirlGang89 · 29/06/2018 22:16

My DD1 has never been a late riser so getting up before her was a no no! Once she was not ‘containable’ I used to yeah shut all doors upstairs apart from bathroom and just have her on the landing/bathroom crawling/walking around, or a ‘screen’ of some sort like iPad/phone on bathroom floor - also I don’t wash my hair in the mornings, just a quick body wash and wash my hair when needed in the evening so can take a bit longer than 30 seconds!

bigfishlittlefishtupperwarebox · 29/06/2018 22:19

My now almost 2yo DD has always just come in with me. She stands at the side of the bath for the 5 mins it takes as she seems to find it fascinating. She helps me wash my legs too and loves that. Now she's a bit bigger I leave the bathroom door open with the gate on the top of the stairs shut so she could wander if she wanted, but she still just wants to watch...

Spinnywinny · 29/06/2018 22:22

Dd1 I strapped in her high chair in front of the tv, now she is a bit older (3) I let her wander around but leave the bathroom door open and look out every min or so. Dd2 is only 5 months so is still happy to sit in her bouncer in the bathroom with me.

ChronicWhimsy · 30/06/2018 17:47

I have a massive playpen - it's actually two joined together. It's basically a lazy way of baby-proofing a room. She would play alone in there quite happily for, oooh, seven minutes? I never wash my hair and shave my legs on the same day!

mrsoutnumbered · 02/07/2018 06:24

I shower in the evening once my husband is home from work. When he used to work away. I'd wait until they were all in bed.

DeadButDelicious · 02/07/2018 06:32

DD is 19 months, she goes In the crib, in her room, twirlywoos/Timmy time on the iPad. That usually gives me 10 minutes or so.

Greenwomanofmay · 02/07/2018 06:32

I’ve moved all hazardous things out of the bathroom and just leave him on the floor with his bath toys and half a roll of loo roll and my 1 year old will play for about 15 mins whilst I shower.

Mol1628 · 02/07/2018 06:48

I used to put mine in his cot with toys. I kept the doors open I could see the cot from the shower. Sometimes he’d cry but I had to shower and my husband works long hours so had no choice. It was 5 minutes at most.

Now they’re older they stay downstairs with the telly on.

Harrykanesrightsock · 02/07/2018 06:54

When mine were small I would just bring her into the bathroom with a few toys.

The hell of when she realised that flushing the loo would make the shower instantly hot and make me scream. Yeah that was a fun game.

FinallyHere · 02/07/2018 06:58

Oh dear @Harrykanesrightsock flushing the loo would make the shower instantly hot

May be time to get a thermostat fitted to the shower...

Magpiefeather · 02/07/2018 07:05

I’ve just graduated to different “containing devices” as DD has got bigger.... used to be bouncy chair, then bumbo, then high chair outside open bathroom door, now playpen wiTh lots of toys and CBeebies on.

In this house I can’t shower whn she is asleep as it’s right at the other side of the (thin) wall where she sleeps!!

I do do stair gate and all upstairs doors closed so she can play on the landing while I go to the loo but I haven’t tried that yet while showering. Need to do more baby proofing of bathroom first! Also she is obsessed with banging the toilet lid if she gets half a chance!
