Parenting books

FTM, I have a 8 mo DD who is fab, but looking forward I don’t really know much about raising an older child and setting rules, teaching about consequences and avoiding/managing difficult behaviour as this becomes appropriate.

Can anyone recommend a book?

If it’s relevant- I’m not a particularly strict parent but equally I want there to be clear expectations of acceptable and non acceptable behaviour. I haven’t seen it for a long time, but I think supernanny (Jo Frost) is probably the sort of thing I’m looking for. (And on that note are her books any good?)

Since having children SuperNanny has said she would never follow the rules in her books.

How to talk so little children listen is good.

Oh really? Interesting. I can’t remember her programmes in details just liked that everything thing seemed firm but calm.

Thanks for the recommendation

The thing with parenting books is every one has a different opinion on what is good parenting.

Maybe start by reading a few articles about parenting styles. My neighbour loves the toddler whisper and it is completly not right for us but the book itself is not wrong.

This book is my absolute favourite - very sensible, easy to read and all round my go to book. It is now out of print but if you can get a second hand copy or download to Kindle I really recommend it.
