Is it okay to leave a baby for 5 minutes.

Sometimes my DS will cry for no reason as babies do. And no matter what I do, he will not stop and sometimes I have to leave him to it and get five minutes for my own sanity and to go back in with a fresh head.

Is this okay? I feel awful when I have to but it really helps me to have a clear head.

It’s not going to cause problems for him?

Sorry I’m a first time single mum and learning as I go. Thanks in advance.

Absolutely. Just put the baby in the cot to keep him safe. I had just 17 months between my two DDs and DD2 often had to be left to scream if I was sorting out DD1. If she wasn't hungry she was left for 5 or 10 minutes whilst I finished feeding or bathing DD1 and by the time I got to the baby she had fallen asleep. Presumably if nothing soothes the baby then 5 or 10 minutes for your sanity is not going to hurt.

Another vote for ear plugs - sometimes my colicky daughter just would not stop crying so I’d pop ear plugs in and keep cuddling her, it took the edge off the volume of crying and helped me to power through!
