How to dress baby in this weather

User1983 · 22/06/2018 23:28

I have a 5 month old and in this weather dress him in a short sleeve vest and long sleeve sleep suit for bed. The windows are open but room still feels warm. So I’m in short sleeve pyjamas with a duvet and am pretty warm. I’m worried I’m overheating the baby. Would a short sleeve vest be enough bearing in mind he doesn’t have a sleep tog or sheet? Thanks!

maybe just the long sleeve sleepsuit without the vest?
He doesnt have a blanket or sleeping bag?
Then I think just the long sleeved sleepsuit rather than the short sleeved as it will make him feel more covered.
Both is probably a bit warm for him in this weather yes

I would have done short sleeve vest and .5 tog bag.

I just do long sleeve sleepsuit for Windows open or i have a long-sleeved vest so his leggy legs are out and I pop a thin blanket/sheet over them, if he gets too hot he normally kicks it off x

Hi, I have a gro egg and its 21.1 degrees, whats best to dress my little one in? Is just a baby grow suitable or should they be in just a vest or both?

INeedNewShoes · 23/06/2018 12:54

When it was above 25 degrees last summer DD slept in just a short sleeved vest with a cellular blanket tucked waist down covering toes. She would most often kick this off but she never became cold.

Or you could do short sleeved vest and some little leggings with feet.

INeedNewShoes · 23/06/2018 12:57

At 21 degrees DD definitely needs a sleepsuit.

If you Google gro bag temperature guide you get a chart suggesting appropriate amount of clothing according to temperature. Obviously they tell you what tog sleeping bag to use but even if you're not using a bag it still is a useful idea of how much clothing is appropriate (and it's often less than you'd think).

Ds is in a short sleeve bodysuit and his bag.

Colbu24 · 23/06/2018 13:03

In layers.

I use a 1.0 tog bag and he wears a long sleeved vest as he will scratch his face of hands aren’t covered. I normally leave the zip undone halfway so his legs still get some air. Main thing is babies can’t wake up and pull a cover over them if they get cold like we would.

Creatureofthenight · 24/06/2018 20:55

I’d always go for the cooler option, babies can overheat quite easily. If they are cold they will let you know!

MagicFajita · 24/06/2018 20:57

I dress ds in a short sleeved vest and trousers with feet.

My 6 month old is in a short sleeve vest and in his summer tog bag. Grow egg says the room is 22 degrees - both windows open. He sleeps like this fine - if it was warmer then we leave him out of the bag until we go to bed, otherwise he ends up getting too cold during the night.

Bluebelltulip · 24/06/2018 21:01

My DD (18 mths) is in a short sleeve vest, would have just been nappy but she can take them off. When I go to bed I'll probably put a blanket over her depending on how her room feels. She is generally quite warm though.

Prusik · 24/06/2018 21:03

Ds2 will be in a short sleeved vest with a cellular blanket over him. But we co sleep so I'll be able to check his temperature easily throughout the night and will just pull him closer if he gets cool

xoguineas · 24/06/2018 21:05

DD is 5 months and I put her in a long sleeve sleep suit with nothing else. She doesn't sleep with blankets she just kicks it off and thinks it's a game Grin

The following link relies on you knowing the temperature in the room, but we always use this guide:
