Have ruined my nappies and wraps. Has anyone tried Bambino Mio Lite wraps?

Some of my fuzzis and nappy wraps have started leaking. Not just normal wicking but actually leaking through the fabric. I couldn't understand why until I looked closer at the laundry labels and discovered I have been confusing fahrenheit and centigrade and as a result have been washing them on 60 when they should only have been done at 35. I am guessing that over time this has weakened the PUL so they are now leaking. I can't believe I have been so stupid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyway the result is I need some cheap wraps. I can get 3 mio lites off ebay for a tenner. I will have to go back to using prefolds as we can't afford to replace the fuzzis and I have prefolds and terries from stuffing the fuzzis. Has anyone tried the mio lites. I'm just a bit worried that the wide band of applix might rub on ds's tummy. Need to know if they are any good as can't afford to make any more mistakes.

I haven't tried them but there is probably a good reason they are so cheap IME - my advice would be to get on to thenappylady classifieds for some decent 2nd hand ones that you know you get on with

I did think about getting 2nd hand wraps but I'm worried now about their life span. My wraps that are leaking are 2 mother ease and a one life. The only reason I can think of them leaking is the fact that I've washed them too hot (and put them on the radiator a couple of times to dry in the winter (ooooppppps). I think part of the reason they are so cheap is that bambino mio have discontinued them ( although there's probably a good reason for that). Why oh why do things always need replacing when other huge bills have come in (bloody car insurance and council tax). I'm going to try tumbling the wraps to see if that helps restore their waterproofness. I have nothing to lose. Thank you for your replies. Have just remembered maisiemogs nappy blog so off to see if anyone has reviewed them on there.

Get some cheap wraps and put them OVER your fuzzibunz - 2 layer cheap should do as well as one layer new!

chatelskier · 24/05/2007 07:19

Just thought! I've got some new Hester ones not opened. What size do you need? These are in a 2 pack. You can have them for £1.50 each + postage if you want.
I've got some NB and some small one unopened, and I've got some regular and toddler ones used a few times as well. £1 each?

Wallace · 24/05/2007 07:53

Oh dear! I wash mine at 60 sometimes too

Flame · 24/05/2007 08:27

From Fuzzi site "Q. Should I use hot water to wash Fuzzi Bunz and how hot?

A. Yes, it is okay to use hot water to wash your Fuzzi Bunz, even on the hottest setting. However, keep in mind that you should dry your diapers on a low setting in your dryer."

tutu100 · 24/05/2007 09:49

Chatelskier, thanks for your offer but I've tried those wraps before and found the binding wicked, but thank you ever so much for offering. Flame on my fuzzi lasbel it says they should only be washed at 35 degrees celsius (or 95 degrees farenheit) which is where the confusion came in. But the reason I washed them at 60 was because I was worried that 40 wouldn't be enough to kill off poo germs. Is 40 hot enough?

Just checked and it does say 35 degrees on my newest fuzzibunz. TOn the old ones the label is washed out so no idea

archiesmummy · 24/05/2007 11:00

Does it really say 35 degrees? That is terrible. I'm pretty sure you need to wash at 60 to kill bacteria. This is what I've been told.

archiesmummy · 24/05/2007 11:02

Just wanted to say as well that Wonderoos can be washed at 60 and they are buy 3 for the price of 2 at the minute

chipmonkey · 24/05/2007 11:50

Ive always washed nappies and wraps at 60, fuzzis are still going strong!

Flame · 24/05/2007 12:41

How do you know it is farenheit? Mine have no F or C (got them in the last few weeks), and would have assumed that they would be labelled for the UK market.

nappyzone · 24/05/2007 13:22

my label says 95f and thennext to it 35c. i shot em in on a 40 - al ok. I think as long as you dont hot tumble there ok so you dont melt them!

Manictigger · 24/05/2007 13:27

What size wraps are you looking for? I've got 4 small ME wraps (2 Rikki, 2 Airflow) that you can have for free (well say a couple of £ to the charity of your choice) because dd has grown out of them and I DEF don't want any more children

tutu100 · 24/05/2007 13:45

My fuzzis have 95f and 35c written on them. I must admit though to never having looked very closly at the label before now just saw the 95 when I first got them and presumed that meant centigrade. Thanks for the offer Manictigger but my ds is 2 and in large wraps. Luckily I've found some tots wraps which he'd outgrown for using over shaped nappies, but at the moment I've just got a pad folded terry in them and so far it's coped today.
Slightly worried though that other people have said they wash their fuzzis at that tempreture and they are fine. The fuzzis that are leaking are a year old. The ones that are still ok are 2 months old. None of these have been tumble dried but some have been dried on the radiator. I forgot to say though that I don't have many nappies so they get washed nearly everyday ready for the next day. Does anyone know if that's why they've started leaking?

tutu100, I also wash mine daily on 60 (and a few times on 90 to get rid of very persistant smell ) but have not had the same problem as you even with my Fuzzis (but I never did get on with them anyway}

Wallace · 24/05/2007 14:05

My old fuzzi's are second hand, and are about 3 years old I think. I have heard that tumble drying them on low helps restore the waterproofness?

Manictigger · 24/05/2007 14:14

Wallace, didn't someone on here once recommend using either fabric conditioner or that waterproofing stuff from Millets for re-waterproofing?

Wallace · 24/05/2007 14:22

Now that does ring a bell... are you any good at searching messages?

Manictigger · 24/05/2007 14:40

I'll have a go but haven't tried using Tech's new link thingy yet.

Read somewhere that you can put a film of undiluted washing up liquid on them (on the indise) then tumble dry them to restore the waterprofing, not tried it myself

tutu100 · 24/05/2007 17:27

Thank you all for your suggestions. I have tried just tumble drying the wraps so will see if that helps. If not on to the other ideas. Thanks for the link by the way.

Right I have tried tumbling two of the wraps to see if that makes a difference, but haven't had a chance to test them yet. However I'm starting to wonder if the problem wasn't with the wraps. Since putting ds back in disposibles at least once a day if not more we have had huge leaks which have saturated his trousers, so now I'm wondering if it was the sheer amount of wee that caused the wraps to leak rather than them losing their waterproofness. Has anyone had experience of a nappy being so wet that it has leaked through the wrap (not just out the leg holes)? He seems to be doing huge wees now. The disposible that leaked today hadn't even been on him 3 hours when it leaked. At least the cloth nappies last slightly longer than that.
