8 week injections, are they really bad?

Just a question about the 8 week jabs, my DS has them next week and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t absolutely dreading them! Are they really awful? Will he be inconsolable? Poor little poppet, feel sad for him already! Can anyone give me a heads up as to what to expect please!

Quite honestly they were fine with my daughter but each kid is different.

Our nurses require them to be awake and then stay for 15 mins to keep an eye on allergy etc.

Best tool I had was a cold cloth on hips and then it numbed the are - think 8 weeks was the double dunt?

Nurses are good though so they do it same time and then it's over for cuddles etc.

It's worse for us as we know what's coming but it's over in minutes and mummy cuddles always help.

Don't worry. My DD shouted briefly at the nurse who stuck the needle in her leg, then got right over it. A bit of Calpol and no more to be said. She is fairly hard as nails mind..

About two seconds of bawling and then popped the dummy in and that was it. She slept a lot afterwards.

We have ours on Monday... my daughter was grumpy for the rest of the day but generally ok. It was the lip wobble that did me in! Hoping my boy is the same!

anametouse · 21/06/2018 21:23

Honestly DS was fine, just slept more than usual after (which was nice for me!) but he got raging fevers with 16 week and one year ones. But at the end of the day we're all fine Smile

TroubledLichen · 21/06/2018 21:24

8 weeks was fine, slight yelp but that was it. She objected more to the calpol than anything else! And was a bit sleepy afterwards but that was it. I definitely think it’s worse for us than it is for them at that age.

Blaablaablaa · 21/06/2018 21:30

No issues....didn't even cry. Just slept a lot the day after. Just remind yourself that they are a good thing. Very, very short term pain for long term gain

mum2bemay22 · 21/06/2018 21:42

Thanks everyone, definitely right that it’s probably worse for us than it is for them! Hopefully it all goes smoothly!

Mine screamed as it went in but was laughing at the nurse minutes after and was like nothing happened, he had a lump for a while but that was it

PonderLand · 21/06/2018 22:56

I cried more than my son did Blush he slept a lot the day he had them and I found it was an easier day than normal! The next ones seemed to affect him more but nothing too extreme, just whinging and unsettled.

Havetothink · 25/06/2018 09:51

Mine cried for 30 seconds then was fine first time. I found they got worse the older she got, especially the last one at about a year.

Tropicana123 · 25/06/2018 09:55

My dc had them last week took cried when she was jagged (one at a time). Didn't cry for long after gave her a cuddle in the waiting room for 5 mins. Slept for hours, around dinner time she screamed for about 45 mins and nothing was helping. It was such a shame, nurse did say they could get stomach cramps and I think that's what it was Sad hope they go ok for u

newmonthnewnameagain · 25/06/2018 10:11

Much more traumatic for you than your baby! Go for tea and cake afterwards, and lots of cuddles.

kirta · 25/06/2018 10:20

Got ours in 2 hours! Shock
I'm looking at my happy smiling baby, and hoping that the effects aren't too bad!

Bobbiepin · 25/06/2018 10:28

DD got a fever after and was miserable but for the next ones I gave Calpol before and she was fine. Be extra careful about washing your hands after nappy changes, the rotavirus one is live and can spread through their poo.

mum2bemay22 · 25/06/2018 10:48

Thanks for the heads up about the rotavirus, I have heard it can make you quite sick! I’ve now roped my mum into coming with me as support for me rather than my son! Coffee and cake sounds a good idea all round ☺️! Good luck Kirta, hope all goes ok! Hopefully the hot weather doesn’t make them more upset! Poor things

8 weeks ok here, she just slept a lot the next day. I got through 3 films (with occasional wakes for nappy and food), which was great - she's never been one of those babies who sleep/feed in the early days while mummy watches boxsets!

Sailed through 12 weeks.

16 week ones, she got very grumpy for a few days afterwards though Sad
