Breastfeeding help

Hiya ladies,

I have a 4 week old that fights at the breast and cries after feeding for a bit. I initially thought I may have been under producing and she was trying to get more out but I discovered that milk was still flowing out when she started to fight. I'd then put her on the other side and she would eventually do the same. This doesn't always happen but it's at least once a day and has mainly been at night.

It saddens me that I can console her Sad

Thank you for your help in advance!

K xx

She might be getting a bit overwhelmed, I think someone once said do a little expressing, just by hand, to let off the initial rush and then pop her back on. You might want to try her in a different position, eg she could be sitting up (sort of laying on your chest, head up, feet down?)

Google the 4th trimester and also cluster feeding. I have joined a Facebook group and although I don’t post much the support of knowing a) its normal b) not the only one going through this.

Babies do this to up supply. Shes basically pre ordering a bigger feed for next time. I am finding we get cycles every few days- it apparantly settled at around 12 weeks. Babies cry for number if reasons and society tells us to ssssh them- biologically they have to for somethings upping milk being pregnant one. If it goes on for ages or you feel she/ he is getting more upset use s sling and sway or go fir a walk it settles them- mine naps in the sling after a session of cluster feeding.

Not sure where pregnant came into that lol

Could it be that the milk's coming out to fast for her? Does it tend to happen after a longer gap between feeds?

As pp said try hand expressing slightly before the feed. Also try winding mid feed, a higher flow could be making her gulp down more air, and getting uncomfortable.
