Painful teething 15 month old help!

Ds is getting more molars and his teething has ramped up to such a level that calpol and nurofen isn’t helping. He’s screaming in pain and banging his head off things. I’ve tried ambesol but it’s very difficult for me to get near his mouth but will put it on his pacifier. Cold fruit and yoghurt helps alittle, I made him some ice lollies but he isn’t interested.

Is there any other medicine for teething? We’re all demented. Ds will scream and cry all day and is generally grumpy poor little thing.

Thanks.

I found that good ol Bonjela calmed my DS down. Have you tried Reflexolgy? I googled it in desperation as his teeth were really bothering him - I watched a youtube video where she held their big toe on each foot applying a bit of pressure between her thumb and fore finger for a couple of minutes and he certainly perked up after that.

PasstheStarmix · 19/06/2018 14:32

Bonjela and ambesol doesn’t work for more than a second. He won’t eat anything and throws all food back at me or on floor. It’s a nightmare.

Reflex thing won’t work if you touch him
He screams more .

Have you tried a frozen washcloth for him to chomp on?
My little girl wasn’t into them but friends had success.
Good luck, teething can be so brutal, at least you know it won’t last too long!

PasstheStarmix · 19/06/2018 14:44

Thanks blonde I have but it doesn’t last long until he’s screaming again. He’s been teething on and off (mainly on) since he as very young. He has over half his teeth at 15 months. I was praying the rest wouldn’t come in until abit later and at least give us a small break but no such luck. Poor ds is finding teething really bad and poor little more was a colicky reflux baby and had literally never had a break since birth, seems he’s always in some sort of discomfort. I’m waiting for he magic age of 18 months everyone keeps talking about because I’m finding this all very upsetting.

Have you seen the GP? It could be an ear infection

PasstheStarmix · 19/06/2018 17:21

Thanks dead teddy I’ve rang gp today and we’re going for a check up tomorrow to be on the safe side.

Good plan Starmix - you can ask about other pain relief at the same time. When mine was really ill doc said it was okay to give Calpol and Nurofen at the same time, maybe they would give you the thumbs up for this?

PasstheStarmix · 19/06/2018 21:03

Thanks, I’ll see what they say, hate seeing ds in this much pain, I think it’s his very back molars and more than one.

Have you tried Teething powders? I used the teetha granules, they were great

mommybear1 · 23/06/2018 19:37

Ashton and parsons teething powders are great otherwise a good bag with crushed ice in it if he will take it - sounds awful I hope this passes soon Thanks

Prusik · 23/06/2018 19:41

How your Ds? Molars are just awful. Ds1 cut all four molars at once and it was horrendous. He'd just roll around the floor in pain. I have no advice. Camomile is supposed to be good. We soaked a cloth in camomile tea for him to chew on. Not sure it helped but I wanted to feel I was doing something!

BethSenior · 23/06/2018 19:58

My youngest of 8 is Downs Syndrome. They cut their teeth in random orders and he struggled terribly with his first tooth. I bought an amber teething necklace for him. It all sounded a bit wackadoodle and happy clappy to me - as the amber against the skin causes a natural analgesia, but for £12 off amazon with next day delivery, I was prepared to try it. He’s just cut a fourth molar completely without our knowledge. It’s been a godsend! Good luck with whatever you try xx

Thanks all, sorry just got your responses. Ds doesn’t have an ear infection and he is well after seeing the gp and it is teething related. He has 4 coming in together upper and lower, it seems Ds doesn’t just get one at a time and doesn’t do things by half’s that’s for sure. After lots of special treatment and cuddles he has finally improved abit and has been eating again and making up for lost time I think! I’m scared for the teething resuming though, can’t believe there’s 20 teeth in total and that it can last until 3 yrs old Shock

Thanks for the tip @Prusik I will try this when the teething beast returns. It’s awful because he’s too young to understand why he is in pain and why it won’t stop, I just do my best to alleviate it. I’m so relieved he’s doing abit better at the moment but dreading it ramping up again.

Thanks toe fluff and mommybear, the granules worked as a distraction I think when ds was younger but aren’t so effective these days.
