Healthy snacks that aren't just fruit

Hi I’m looking for a bit of advice. DD is 10 months old and was a little later than most into food as she was 7 weeks early. She is still having 4 bottles a day, one at 7, then 11 after morning nap, 4 after afternoon nap, and 7 before bed. I find the whole food thing quite tricky and when to reduce bottles. She is eating more but doesn’t have any teeth yet. I’m thinking I need to give her snacks when she has her 11 and 4 bottles and gradually get rid of one or two of them. I need some ideas for snacks to replace the milk with. The problem is DD tends to just squeeze fruit and it goes everywhere. I don’t mind giving it to her at tea time as it’s not long before bed but she tends to just play with it and only eats a bit of it. I know it’s all exploration but I want her to have something that fills the gap. I don’t mind making some things but I’d also like some quick things for on the go and things I can take out with me. I have given her bits of brioche and malt loaf but I do want her to have some stuff that’s not too sweet and cakey. Anyone got any ideas of snack food I can give her?

Mini breadsticks?

MinaPaws · 18/06/2018 16:10

My DC used to have:
mini bread sticks
mini rice cakes
Organix snacks
mini squares of wholemeal bread sandwiches with cream cheese or pate or butter and honey
sliced cheese cut into small squares
yoghurts
chunks of peeled cucumber
carrot sticks
red pepper sticks

If they'd been around when DC were small, I'd probably also have used those organic veg purees that come in suckable pouches

Peas
Cucumber sticks or pepper sticks
Hummus or nut butter on mini rice cakes
Cheese cubes
Toast
Ham or turkey slices
A fruit or savoury muffin (homemade, not the sugary rubbish you might buy out)
Yogurt
Even mini servings of what you might have for a meal like omelette or pieces of roast chicken
I also used to make mine green smoothies with spinach, avocado, banana, etc (some fruit but lots of veg and healthy fats too)

No honey for under one year olds as said above

Hummus on rice cakes is a good shout and just a simple yogurt. Bread sticks will be good for out and about. Today I bought some rye bread from Lidl. Thought I could put a bit of cream cheese or something on it and cut it into fingers. Need to find a nice easy flapjacks recipe too.

A flapjack recipe I use is for my 10 month DS and he loves it and it's so quick
150g oats
1 tbsp desiccated coconut
50g butter
1 1/1 banana
4 tbsp orange or apple juice
3 dates or throw in raisins or berries of your choice

Whizz up the oats in Nutribullet or blender, then add coconut
Blitz butter, banana, fruit and juice until a sticky paste. (Separate to the oats for this bit)
Stir In oats and coconut
Scoop into lined or greased dish in preheated oven on 170 for about 15-20 mins
This makes quite a big batch though for a little appetite and tummy so if she is just being introduced half it for about 6 fingers ior quarter it for less waste .
Hope this helps
