Turning eye?

Twinmummyx2 · 23/05/2007 09:56

My DD is 2.8 and i thought a few months ago that i saw a turn in her eye, it was when she was sleepy, checked again after her sleep and all was fine.

I noticed it again yesterday morning, and then my neighbour popped in for 10 mins and noticed it too. Do i need to see the doctor about it? she wasn't sleepy when spotted yesterday. Can these things just develop without having problems as babies?

Does anyone know howthese eye things work???

(sorry prob should post this on health)

Twinmummy, I would get this checked out as a precaution. It could be an intermittent squint but there is also the possibility at this age that it is just the appearance of a squint caused by pronounced epicanthal folds which is where there are flaps of skin in the corners of the eyes which make them look turned-in although the eyes are actually straight. They grow out of this as the nose develops and pulls the skin out.
However as chidren don't "grow out of" a true squint it is better to have it checked by an opthalmologist. You can get a referral from your GP.

BTW, is your dd a twin?

Twinmummyx2 · 23/05/2007 11:40

Hello, yes she is a twin. The muscle thing you mention, it might not be the same but my older sister has a muscle in her eye that we can see....we call it her 'third eye lid'...she started it!....it has no effect on her vision and dosen't cause her problems, shes had it since a child....i wonder if this has any connection to my dd's eye..can;t see anything untoward though....will def get it checked then.

Thanks

I asked if she was a twin because they tend to be born earlier and squints are more common in prem babies. Also definitely run in families!

Twinmummyx2 · 23/05/2007 12:27

Ahhhhh no she wasn't prem..born at 40 weeks in fact and weighed 7lb 5 baby..so just like a singleton really! interesting that they run in families though...

Was her twin as big as she was? You must have been exhausted!

Twinmummyx2 · 23/05/2007 15:37

he was bigger 7lb 12!!!lol

my other twins were 6lb 12 and 7lb 12 at 38 weeks...so could have been bigger if had gone to 40 weeks too. It's the milk that grew them so big i think...i drank full fat milk by the bucket load...i LOVE milk!!
