For a one year olds birthday? All his little friends have given bags at the end of their parties so fell i need to comply... any ideas for a little something to go in that won't break the bank would be appreciated!

oh they are only one - if it is going to be a pain to get stuff don't worry about it. There's time for all that later and if anyone thinks you are a bad host for not giving a party bag, well they are a bit shallow!

Do it if you will feel guilty for not doing sp maybe but otherwise leave it til they are older - there are many years of parties requiring bags to come!

ballons would go down a treat

babygrand · 23/05/2007 20:52

I wouldn't worry at age 1. When they're old enough to say 'Where's my party bag', then you're in trouble!

hana · 23/05/2007 20:54

but just thinking, helium balloons fairly pricey
what about a rubber ducky wrapped up in pretty paper? can usually get them quite cheap at elc ( think 3 for £3??)

stealthsquiggle · 23/05/2007 20:54

Definitely balloons. If you can't stand the pressure and do go for party bags, small (cheap) soft toy and/or funky (cheap) socks

stealthsquiggle · 23/05/2007 20:54

or ducks. but I am sure you can find them cheaper than that

Slubberdegullion · 23/05/2007 20:55

For a one year old...nowt.

Just did dd1's birthday (3) and all the kids got was birthday cake in a paper napkin.

I am a mean bugger but I refuse to get on the competitive party bag hampster wheel yet ...(no doubt in a few years dd's whining will have worn me down though)!

mckenzie · 23/05/2007 20:59

Last year I did a book (Little Miss Birthday or Mr Birthday, job lot from Tesco) instead of a party bag for DS's 5th birthday. Stuck for ideas for this year but I refuse to get cheap plastic toys that will get lost/broken/thrown away in 30 mins.
His party has a sports theme and will be both sexes.

Any ideas gratefully recieved.
TIA

stealthsquiggle · 23/05/2007 21:01

McKenzie - hacky-sack type balls? You can get them in bulk quite cheaply..

mckenzie · 23/05/2007 21:07

what on earth are 'hacky sack' balls please?

stealthsquiggle · 23/05/2007 21:10

I was thinking of these but what about these?

mckenzie · 23/05/2007 21:24

they both look good - I particularly like the second ones. Only trouble is they wont deliver to the UK. I'm off to search on google now to see if i can find them here. thanks very much for the idea.

stealthsquiggle · 23/05/2007 21:30

If you get desperate, call or email them - they will deliver to the UK (they have done for me) - they just don't let you order online (partly cos they have to quote for postage based on weight).

mckenzie · 23/05/2007 22:01

great, thanks for that tip. In that case i dont think I'll bother searching anymore. I'll just call them tomorrow.

snowwonder · 23/05/2007 22:12

i collect various, normally reduced items throughout the year then wrap them up and dd writes on them thanks for coming to party etc, then we put them in a box and do a lucky dip as they leave the part + a slice of cake

pointydog · 23/05/2007 22:13

For a one year old?

No

snowwonder · 23/05/2007 22:14

if you have an instore near you they have some great books one a pound each that would be good for one year old's i am going to start getting some for my dd's bday party in augast...

snowwonder · 23/05/2007 22:14
