Fed up with scapping poo off nappies, please remind me why I use washables...

...honestly, I don't think DD has had a flick the poo into the loo poo for months. I now use disposable liners (although it seems a shame to put paper in a lovely fleece nappy) but her poos is soo runny the liner makes little difference. I have forever got my rubber gloved hands down the loo scraping off poo an it isn't funny any more.

Can anyone help, and if they can't help, please remind me why I use washables because I am swiftly falling out of love (DD is a year by the way and we have used them since she was 3 months).

Thanks

There's a little spray attachment you can get for your loo, so it just sprays the muck off. I'll see if I can remember where you get them, and get back to you!

have them, but you may get it cheaper at www.thenappyline.co.uk, and a VERY personal service!

SpawnChorus · 22/05/2007 15:44

What paper liners do you use? I use Popolini's, and they are great IME. I never got on with the ones on a roll that look a bit like kitchen paper.

ok, I risk looking like a total slut here but I never scrape, even when DS has really runny poos. I pull off the liner and anything else goes in the washing machine. Never a scrap has remained when I open the machine.

Go on, give it a try, just bung them in, poo and all, and see what happens. You might be surprised. (pleasantly I mean! )

GColdtimer · 22/05/2007 15:58

Really missgolightly, do you? I nearly did that and i thought ooohh noooo, its really slutish! Might give it a go though...

And spawnchorus, I do use those kitchen roll ones and I hate them. Will try popolini and just seen someone recommending the tots bots ones.

And chatelskier, thanks for the tip and the links.

I mean, now they are all out on the line and they look all cute I am feeling very smug indeed, but come the poo scraping its a very different story...

twofalls,we used to just fling them in the machine as well- if you want to you can do a cold rinse first before putting the detergent in

SpawnChorus · 22/05/2007 16:02

Oh I agree with MissGolightly. I'm none too fastidious with any 'remnants'.

Spidermama · 22/05/2007 16:06

I don't scrape either, but rather hold the nappy in the water when I flush the loo.

My DS never does solid poos either. That's a bit of a worry.

I use PHP liners. They're big, slushable and they do catch most of it. There are also hefty strong paper organic ones which I can't remember the name of. Green baby or something.

MissGolightly · 22/05/2007 16:10

I use PHP liners too - they are huuuuuge. In fact I have to fold them up to fit them in DS's nappy.

I do feel a bit slutty twofalls especially when I bung in a really bad one (I try to flick off any obvious lumps) but truly they are always fine when they come out so I figure if they are clean when they come out, it doesn't really matter one way or the other.

snugglebumnappies · 22/05/2007 16:11

Ok so I am a nappy slut also

Never scrape or use liners and DD is still breatfeeding at just over two so her poos are not pretty

Go on, just bung 'em in, we dare you

MissGolightly · 22/05/2007 16:13

Hurrah, come on the nappysluts. Anyone else want to declare themselves?

GColdtimer · 22/05/2007 16:28

Okey-dokey. I'm in. I hereby proclaim myself a nappyslut.

I am a liberated poo scraper thanks to you lot.

I like the idea of being a nappyslut but doesn't your filter get blocked with undigested carrot etc?

Manictigger · 22/05/2007 16:40

Have just reread that and apologise if it sounds in any way rude (not sure if it does or doesn't actually)

nappyzone · 22/05/2007 17:46

in our house if it dont fall off easily with a flick it goes in - filter ok - hubby just checked, there was a pea in it but that was it. if my washer dies i will let you all know! dont like liners - im tight and its just more expense and something else to remember to buy!

tissy · 22/05/2007 17:47

well our machine doesn't have a filter that I have found(and I've looked on many an occasion), and it's still going strong five years later!

CarGirl · 22/05/2007 17:50

Use fleece liners so just flush off what I can then bung in the machine.

I do a machine rinse (ie full wash programme without the wash bit and detergent, so 3 cold rinses with spinning in between) then add detergent & other whites.

all comes out smell free and clean.

BTW the cold rinsing beforehand finally elimanted the amonia whiff I cold never get rid of beforehand.

bobsmum · 22/05/2007 17:50

I am such a nappy slut.

Ds toilet-misses are far more hideous than dd's nappies any day and my washing machine is my best friend. Well the best of my friends with a dispensing drawer and spin cycle.

I use fleece and paper liners, but it still spreads around occasionally and mymachine is super shiny clean with no smells at all

Welcome to our world!

Malaleche · 22/05/2007 17:51

I am a nappy slut. Or i was until weaning started resulting in poos that just fall off the nappy! I use motherease one size and fleece liners.
I do a pre-wash, then 60Cº wash with extra rinse and one at 90Cº now and then. No probs.

bobsmum · 22/05/2007 17:51

Agree with machine rinse first then wash.

QuiltHugger · 22/05/2007 17:52

I dip it in the flush and the rest goes in the wash.
mmmmm not even entertaining the idea of looking in my filter

DaisyMOO · 22/05/2007 18:19

I am another nappy slut, I stopped scraping and sluicing and dunking years ago. We occasionally get the odd raisin in the door seal, but it's very clean and the nappies ALWAYS come out clean. I normally pre-rinse, and then a main wash. Our original washing machine broke last year, but we had had it for 7 years and my grandma had got rid of it after having it for 7 years herself. So I doubt the poo did much damage!

Walnutshell · 22/05/2007 18:38

Am def a nappy slut despite being easily grossed out (or perhaps that's why?) and generally fastidious - I guess we all have our limits! Was just thinking this morning how I'm falling out of love with washables when the liner was all scrunched up in the middle and poo stuck to the edges of the cloth bit. Still, it has gone into the bucket like that and I don't suppose I'll be fishing it back out... Ugh, I am gross.

MissGolightly · 22/05/2007 20:16

I have had the odd raisin like Daisy, but the filter is generally ok - wonder why? I think perhaps anything biodegradable eventually breaks down and gets sluiced through...? All I ever find in there is cat hairs and 5p pieces.

DaisyMOO · 22/05/2007 20:31

DS once ate one of the raisins that he found in door seal before I could stop him
