Nursery drop off drama

My DS has just turned two and has been going to the same nursery 2 days a week since he was 1. He has always loved it there, occasionally going through a clingy patch but always got over it quite quickly.
Two months ago me & DH went away to a wedding for 2 nights for the first time without DS, leaving DS with granny, apparently all was fine. Really wish we hadn’t now as the next nursery drop off was a disaster - crying, clinging, shouting “no want go home, want my mummy” right from when we arrive in the car park! And it’s been the same ever since. Also about a month ago he moved rooms at nursery to the next stage area (with two of his friends).
I really don’t know what to do - it breaks my heart to hear him crying “mummy mummy noooo” when I leave him. I know he’s ok soon after as they’ve sent me photos of him smiling at breakfast and playing - so it’s definitely just drop off.
Any tips or tricks to make this better, or is it just a longer phase I need to grit my teeth and put up with? Feeling like an awful mum currently!

Oh I feel for you, mine was exactly the same when he changed rooms and I still die inside a little bit thinking about it -- he's 12 now!

You just have to ride it out I'm afraid, but it is horrible. Keep it bright, positive and quick then have a cry in the car park. Flowers
