Clothes for 1 year old

Being first time parents, we were totally clueless as to what clothes to buy for our DS and wasted money on stuff that were never going to be suitable for a young baby! We're now looking at buying clothes for when he's 1 (in a couple of months) and starts going to nursery. Given he won't be a baby anymore, I'm thinking he's likely to wear more "real" clothes rather than just baby grows and sleepsuits... What should we be looking at buying and how much clothes would we realistically need? (Tops, trousers, jackets, shoes, baby grows etc still??) Hoping to stock up in the sale and not have to worry about him running out of clothes in the first 6 months!

I found asda really good, you can get sets of 3 tops and 3 leggings that are all mix and match, we generally use stuff like that for nursery, things that you don't mind getting dirty and a bit worn. For other things, I like M&S for "better" clothes, but a know some people don't rate them. A couple of throw on cardigans or light jackets, and then a rain coat. A pair or 2 of shoes as well.

My DS wore mostly jogger trousers (usually from supermarket) and long sleeved t shirts with or without a short sleeved vest under depending on the weather. Summer he wore short sleeved T-shirt’s and either joggers or shorts. Mostly supermarket packs, with a couple of nicer tops and jeans for weekends.

I’d say we probably had about 8 of each, but that depends on your washing facilities. Then a couple of cardis/hoodies, a winter coat, a lighter coat/rain coat, hat, gloves, shoes. Pjs we still had baby grows at 12-18m, although he had a couple of separates too.

I’d advise some ‘sacrificial’ nursery t shirts, I like Sainsbury’s multipacks. You’ll prob need 3 full changes to leave with nursery plus what they’re wearing so plan for that. Leggings are great at this age as so comfy for them to move in and not a problem to put them to bed in if they fall asleep at odd times in car etc.
I found a couple of little zip fleeces really handy as cosy but also lightweight.
Also one of those all-in-one waterproof suits, ours was jojo maman, see if you can get one in the sale- brilliant for nursery and home.
H&M are great for kids clothes and if you join their ‘club’ (free) it’s unlimited free delivery.

Mine wore vests (either long or short sleeved depending on the weather) with a cardigan or long-sleeved top, and either cords or joggers. We really rated Sainsburys and H&M for day-to-day clothes at that age.

You might not want to stock up too far ahead though - I did that and the shape of some of the clothes ended up not working for him, ie the trousers would fit in the leg but too big round the waist, so we ended up with stuff he never wore! Maybe just buy 12-18 months and then wait for the next round of sales?

I like Sainsbury 25% off sale.

My toddler lives in tshirts and leggings/jogging bottoms. Hodies and waterproof suits, fleece lined for winter. Short sleeved vest for winter. A few sun hats and winter hats. Mitten too.

Shoes are only needed 6 weeks after they have started walking.

We gave up on Baby grows before 1 and just got proper pjs as she was too wriggly but now she is a nj d sleeper.
