Sleeping through the night

I have a 5 and a half week old baby who last night slept from 11pm until 6am. I know I should be grateful for this but can’t help wondering if it’s ok or not as seems a bit young? He last fed before bedtime at 8:30pm, he woke for a feed at 11pm but wasn’t interested and went back to sleep until 6am, I have fed him but only for 20 minutes and he has fallen back asleep. Should I be grateful for the sleep or worried for the lack of feeding and too much sleep? (First time mum worries)!

My DD did it once or twice at that age, don't worry, if they are hungry they will let us know.
Right back to normal the next night!
Congrats on your LO!

As long as their weight is fine, they are weeing and pooing and are not unwell (check temperature) it is fine. It probably won’t last so get all the sleep you can.

I’d say that it depends on his weight and also if he is gaining weight and feeding well. If he is a good weight, healthy and gaining weight well then i think it should be ok. If you’re breastfeeding then you might want to express to manage any supply issues.
I read somewhere that when a baby reaches 5kg, metabolically this means they can sleep through the night, so more to do with weight than age at this point.
My DD also slept for long stretches over night from the start and we were advised to set an alarm and wake her every four hours until she was 6 weeks. I think we stopped doing it at around 5 weeks as it wasn’t going that well, and she fell into a natural pattern of going 5-6 hours before waking up for a feed. I got inconsistent advice from health visitors and google, so just went with what felt right in the end.

He is gaining weight absolutely fine and usually he wakes bang on every 3 hours for a feed but he just didn’t seem hungry at 11pm last night so didn’t force him to eat and I thought he will wake me up when he is hungry but nothing until he cried at 6am, strange! He is back fast asleep again now. Maybe it’s a one off? Doesn’t seem unwell though and my instinct feels everything is ok at the moment...

My dc3 did that stretch from 2 weeks old. It was bizarre because my other 2 were no way near sleeping through at that age. Now at 9 weeks she sleeps 7-7. Some babies are just good sleepers. Shes a chunky baby, gained weight quickly and feeds a lot in the day so I think she just takes what she needs in the day so she can sleep at night.

As long as he’s gaining weight fine and the midwives haven’t recommended he be on a feeding schedule due to weight issues, it’s fine. It’s very normal for them to start sleeping longer stretches around that age. My 2nd is 3 months now and he started doing it occasionally at 6 weeks and slept through most nights from 10 weeks (he’s ebf, so bit uncomfortable at first! But my supply adjusted). He may keep it up or may be a one off.
