Toddler leaking nappies every night

Hi, my boy is 13 months and the past couple of weeks has leaked through his nappy every single night. Every morning without fail, he wakes up soaked to the bone and in a puddle of pee. I did think it was sweat in this heat but it is yellow and you can smell its wee. He was in pampers pull up pants but changed to Aldis nappies to see if it made any difference. It didn't. Last night we put a nappy on with a pull up over the top. He still woke up in a puddle. Also to add, it's not as if the nappies aren't catching anything because every morning he wakes up with a bulging nappy that weights a ton. He has a bottle of milk before bed and if he wakes up, has a drink in the night but he very rarely wakes up for a drink. I'm at a loose end, I've literally got a hundred pairs of pjs on the washing line and mine & his sheets are running out because they're all in the wash! He is quite a good sleeper so I try to refrain from waking him up to change his nappy I case he starts waking up all the time and regressing. Obviously if he wakes up for a drink and he has a full nappy, I change him. I change his nappy right before bed. I can't keep washing and drying sheets every single day, what can I do?? Should I stop giving him a drink during the night? I haven't done so yet because I always felt like I couldn't not give him a drink if he wants one? Is there any extra strong nappies? Any help would be appreciated x

If you give him a bottle in the night then you may also need to change him then.

I find pampers dry nights are better then the pull ups. Maybe try the next size up as well as there is a big overlap in size but a larger size nappy will have more absorbant material.

Maybe give the last bottle a bit earlier in the evening too.

Mine have gone through phases of this. Then stop again. What worked for us: If he woke for a drink (or anything else) changed the nappy. Made sure nappy not being compressed (and therefore unable to expand): left popper vests undone and made sure waist elastic is not on top of the nappy but is on baby’s tummy. Nappy not too tight. I’ve found Boots own nappies good, and that nappies are better than pull ups. Going up a size can help, but only if they give a close fit round the legs.

Have you tried the + nappies? So if he's in Pampers size 5 or whatever try the 5+. They have additional absorbency. I don't know if other brands have the same system.

Thanks everyone! No I haven't tried the + nappies, I didn't realise that was a thing so I think I'll go to Asda later to get some. He's quite a chunky baby, always has been, but is still in size 4. Is that not normal? They don't seem to small for him, or too big, they seem to fit perfectly which is why I've never considered it might be the size of the nappies. Should I size up?

My 18mo is still in 3s in the day! But I use a Pampers 4+ at night as I was having a similar problem. if she wakes for a drink in the night I also change her.

Nappy wrap for reusable nappies, over his pampers. You can also buy cotton absorbent pads for them too which you could try putting in his disposable nappy.

SoddingUnicorns · 07/06/2018 16:15

We used pampers + nappies at night, the only ones that never leaked.

Caterina99 · 07/06/2018 20:20

We sized up and used the pampers overnight ones for bedtime as we had this issue. There was still some leakage occasionally, but talking damp pjs rather than full on stripping the bed every morning.

We also cut back on the evening milk from 8 to 6oz max, although once we swapped to a cup around 15 months he wasn’t as into it anyway so didn’t always finish it. Also moved it earlier so he had it around 6 when winding down rather than right before bed.

My sons nappies also used to leak, I cut out some gauze from the chemist and put in his nappy to soak up his wee before it hit his nappy....it worked for us. Make sure his willy is poking down as well

Yes size up! Whenever we have had leaks in the past we have sized up and it has worked. It doesn't matter whether they look like they fit or not.
