Do you let your dc watch tv before school?

My ds eats his breakfast in front of tv whilst I get ready. I have thought often that this is quite bad but I think he learns all day in school and he has no siblings to chat to over breakfast. Dh leaves for work early. I go to work straight after school run so no time and also we do lots of things together after school Reading and we normally eat as a family at least a few times a week

Just made me think what's everyone else's morning routine?

It's totally fine op.

I don't put it on because they get stuck inyo something and it delays us. Have two so one of them kicks a fusd if I turn it off. I now we just don't go there.

Hey if it works for you, keep doing it.

Lemontwist · 06/06/2018 08:29

Mine get too distracted but the rule is they can have it on only when they are completely ready: breakfast eaten, shoes on, bags and coats ready.

Have never started it

Would never get dc out of the house

Yeah while I get ready ( I get the kids sorted first)

I hear dd saying go tayo as I write this!

MrsBlaidd · 06/06/2018 08:37

No because my children are turned into zombies when the TV is on - even if it's something boring.

The deal is that TV can go on once they are ready for school until it's time to leave but they've never managed this so no TV.

Agent13 · 06/06/2018 08:37

Mine does. I think it’s fine. It doesn’t cause any problems really. He wakes up so early it’s actually a long time between getting up and going to school for us! If we had to rush out it would be a different matter! I think there’s a lot of angst about kids watching tv but it doesn’t bother me.

GreenMeerkat · 06/06/2018 09:34

Yes, my DD watches TV while having breakfast. Keeps her in one spot long enough for me to get dressed. Otherwise I'd be one of those mums doing the school run in pyjamas.

zooz · 06/06/2018 09:42

I don't because DS gets too distracted and he eats slow enough as it is. When he started school we tried TV in the mornings but he would get totally transfixed. I get ready in the living room while DS eats at the dining table, so we can chat a bit, but as he can't multitask even a bit of talking makes him forget to eat! If we got up early enough and were completely fed and ready and still had time left, I'd have no problem with a bit of TV. But as it stands, we're always in a rush! Do what works for you OP. If it's not impacting on him getting ready and he's not late, I don't see the big deal.

Canwejustrelaxnow · 06/06/2018 09:49

Yes of course. They eat breakfast at the table in the other room though. They know they have to be dressed and ready to leave at a certain time. They half watch telly, half build Lego etc. We need them entertained and chilled to enable us to get ready.

They do similar after school too, so that I can make dinner, sort washing out etc.

MrsMrsMrsMrs · 06/06/2018 09:52

Yes
Our routine is this:
We live in a 3 story house and this works for us.
Wake DS grab his clothes
Wake DD grab her clothes
Leave clothes in sitting room (middle floor)
Take kids down for breakfast (ground floor)
When kids have finished they go upstairs to sitting room and get dressed while watching tv (we even have a rota for it!🙄)
Meanwhile I go and get dressed, showered etc
Also kids run and brush teeth and wash etc (top floor) and run down and catch a bit more tv before we head off to school.
Basically it stops them fighting.
Oh and on Friday they have no TV but they can practise their spellings or read. Partly because with 2 kids and 5 week days I wanted to make it fair (and DS can’t cope with unfairness!)

BingTheButterflySlayer · 06/06/2018 09:59

Once they're dressed and breakfasted - yep.

Metalhead · 06/06/2018 10:23

Mine do, especially the 2 year old when she’s woken early so I can have a coffee in peace and wake up properly myself! Feel a bit bad about it but like you say, they’re at school/nursery all day and we do other stuff in the evenings or at the weekend.
