What are you dressing your newborn (0-3m old) in and do you change them into something different before bed?

I'm a second time mum who can't remember what I did with my PFB but have a suspicion I've become a little more slovenly the second time around. Grin. He's 7 weeks, always in sleepsuits (leggings if we're pushing the boat out) and I don't change him into anything different for bed. I change his clothes when they're marked, sicked on or wet. How about you?

No, I never changed before bed at that age unless I bathed them before bed (rare!) or the sleepsuits was grubby/had been sicked on etc.

I seem to remember getting huffy with DH when he didn’t change 3 day old ds from his “daywear” of leggings and cardigan into a sleep suit... I probably unclenched a bit later Grin I think I’d make a call around 4-5pm at a nappy change and dress him accordingly. (I bathed him in the mornings... sigh... I’ve just had a lovely wee trip down memory lane as he’s now a goregous cheeky boisterous 5 year old 😍)

My son's 5 weeks and I just put him in a sleepsuit all day or vest if it's warm, if we go out I might put him in leggings and a top but I think outfits at that age are quite restrictive? Considering he sleeps most of the time when out I wouldn't want him to be uncomfortable. I change him in the morning though, and at night if he's in a vest or romper and through the day if he needs it (on sleepsuit 5 today already Grin

I tended to do bath and a clean sleepsuit from almost as soon as I got them home.

squidgesquodge · 05/06/2018 19:44

DD1 was a bit possety so, just before I settled in for feeding her all evening, I tended to change her out of her "day wear" babygro (usually a naice one we had been gifted from JoJo or The White Company) into a "night" babygro (three pack from Asda) as that almost gave me an excuse not to change her at other points as she'd never be in a babygro for too long.
DS vomited everywhere at frequent intervals. He rarely wore anything other than a three pack babygro and would have to have multiple changes a day/night.

Lukeandlorelai4Ever · 05/06/2018 19:46

10 week old , second dd and yes of course I always change her from her day clothes.
She wears rompers, babygros or leggings during the day and a long sleeve vest( which is changed every day) or babygro at night.
We are out everyday so maybe that's why I change clothes .

HostaToFortune · 05/06/2018 19:47

Sleepsuits all the way. I had a 24 hour in the same one rule. In the end, I almost never had to enforce it because both of mine were pukers. I once changed both DD and me head-to-toe and down to undies five times before 11am Hmm

Bellabutterfly2016 · 05/06/2018 19:49

I loved dressing dd up (now 3) in cute outfits, but always used jersey items, absolutely no denim.
I did Day outfits and Sleepsuits.
I remember being at the doctors seeing a baby the same age as mine in skinny jeans and a faux leather jacket! My mum was with me and we were both in shock. How uncomfortable must that have been!!!!

Parker231 · 05/06/2018 19:52

Mine wore sleep suits day and night until they were about 9 months. They tended to wear nicer ones during the day as we were out somewhere each day and then changed into a clean (cheaper brand) one for nights.

TiffanyDoggett · 05/06/2018 19:54

Thanks for all the replies. I like the idea of changing and bathing him for bed but after the evening routine with a 4 yr old I just want to stuff my face and fall asleep!!

With ds1 it was the whole coconut oil massage and bath routine! Oh how things change Smile

Do whatever works best for you. He won’t remember!

SoyDora · 05/06/2018 19:58

We were out every day too but I still just put mine in sleepsuits during the day until about 4 months. Must just have been lazy 🤷🏻‍♀️.

AvoidingDM · 05/06/2018 22:23

Bath baby first then 4yo or get a bath seat and stick them both in together. If you DH is about then take one each to get them dried.

Caterina99 · 05/06/2018 22:54

DD is now 7 months. Up to about 3 months she just wore vests and sleepsuits all the time apart from the odd special occasion. I just. Hanged her as needed, and she was quite sicky so it was usually a couple of changes a day.

From about 3 months she mostly wore “outfits” during the day. Ie a vest and leggings. She gets changed into a sleepsuit at bedtime

teabagfreak · 05/06/2018 22:56

My 9wo normally wears cotton rompers during day and a sleepsuit at night.

Murane · 05/06/2018 22:59

DS is four months and still wears a vest and sleep suit all day and all night. I change him when he poos or sicks, or if he hasn't been changed for 24 hours (rarely happens!) If we go out somewhere I dress him in dungarees or trousers and long sleeve t-shirt, but he gets changed back into his sleep suit as soon as we come home. It's more convenient for me to wash sleep suits and more comfy for him!

TiffanyDoggett · 06/06/2018 10:32

@AiryFairy1 my big one is almost 5 and it does feel like such a long time ago doesn't it?! I'm much more relaxed second time round. It just goes too quickly though.

@HostaToFortune I think I aim for that rule too but it just doesn't seem to happen .

@AvoidingDM that's always what I aim to do but it's very dependent I. Ds1 who is at 4 still very high needs (ASD) and the evening routine can be a dream or a nightmare. I'll have to work out some sort of system sharpish though.
