Taking our 8 week old abroad

Hi everyone

We are going to Croatia with our 8 week old baby for a wedding. We have extended the trip to be a 7 day/night holiday (this seemed a good idea when I was pregnant).

We’ve booked a self catering apartment, and are near restaurants shops etc. I’m EBF.

I’m feeling nervous about the whole thing and am looking for advice on what I need to take and consider. I’ve read babies under 6 months shouldn’t wear suntan lotion, obviously we would avoid direct sun but baby and I are both fair skinned so feels right to use some lotion on her just in case. What about mosquito protection? And how to dress her? Vest no vest! I’m very confused! 🤪

Any tips gratefully received

I travelled to the Middle East when my LO was 8 weeks and just got back couple of days back!
There are sunscreens suitable from Birth such as this one www.escentual.com/sun/sun-protection/mustelasun001/ which I bought and used on her.
Definitely never wore a vest when there, only sleepsuits and occasionally little summer dresses with nappy covers when going out on hot evenings. They sell mosquito nets for prams/cots etc. I personally believe it is SO much easier to travel with a newborn than a toddler for example. I am EBF as well and she only fed and slept most of the flight (7hr flight) and even when awake, she was quite content in her sling with her dad. My DH was brilliant and took care of nappy changes and like mentioned earlier walking up and down the aisles with her, so I could relax as much as possible when not breastfeeding.
Enjoy your trip and let your partner look after her while you snooze/enjoy a moviea!! Grin

Assuming you’re taking a pushchair, take an adjustable parasol that is compatible for it. Do not cover the pushchair with a Muslin or equivalent as it’s dangerous. Thin cotton vests (sleeveless) will be fine for during the day and potentially at night too. Babies can get sweaty so fabrics such as cotton and bamboo are best

Take an umbrella to provide mobile shade.

DH and I took DS to Majorca staying in a villa with pool at that age.

It was great. As long as you're self catering I do t really see the issue.

It's not really that different to being at home.

We bought baby floatation devices for the pool and he loved it. Took swim nappies and bought an all in one baby swim suit (like a baby grow without feet) to minimise sun exposure.

Just be careful to stay out of the worst of the heat in the afternoon.

It's worth buying a cap with a flap at the back to shade eyes, neck and head as well.

My parents took me to Yugoslavia when I was six weeks old, 50 years ago! All will be fine.
