help! leaking nappies!

Am not doing well with nappies with our 6 week old boy - help please! He's fairly tall, weighs about 11 lbs, and seems to have pretty skinny legs.

Basically, everything seems to leak (poo and pee), from round his legs, both during the day and at night, and I can't work out why, or what we should do about it.
For nappies we use:
Diddy Diapers size 2, folded down around his tummy
40cm terries
Modern Baby small nappies
Motherease Onesize (this leaks the least)

For wraps we use
Imse Vimse Bumpy Newborn and Small size
Tots Bots size 1
Bambino Mio small

Worst leaking is at night (generally use a diddy diaper plus tots bots wrap - poo almost always makes it onto the wrap, and sometimes beyond) - we do leave him in this nappy for a long time, 12-13 hours (does that make me a bad mother?)

What do we do? Also, I need to buy some new wraps (don't have enough); any recommendations of ones that will be better at containing stuff?

Thank you!

Motherease wraps will help a lot IMHO - they are much better at containing wee than the wraps you've got and if you get the Air Flows which have poppers at leg and waist you should be able to adjust them so that they contain the poo better. Size-wise he should be in the medium size going by his weight, but if he has skinny legs I suspect that they will be too loose. It might be worth trying both sizes and possibly hiring the small size if necessary.

I second the wraps, with a young baby it is commomn to have to change the wraps a bit more frequently due to poo explosions, we had two this morning! However I don't think you have the most reliable wraps, I would go for a Mtherease Airflow or a Natur Babies popper wrap so you can adjust the waist and legs seperatly

ah, so you reckon the leaking onto the wrap is fairly inevitable then, with a small one? are there any less leaky nappies? (though actually just containing poo/pee to the wrap would be a step forward!) will definitely get some different wraps.

Have you got a tight fit on his legs? Am guessing not as all these wraps caused leaks with us for that reason. Agree about airflows, much better fit on the legs. Perhaps you could try a ME sandys as these have adjustable legs like the airflow wraps, found them good for containing explosive poos when ds2 was small as they are quite high rise and fit well on his skinny legs/big tummy.

The leaking onto he wrap will get less and less but my DS2 is worse than my other two LO's, but his poos seem more "explosive" then theirs. I agree that a poppered nappy (such s a Sandy's or Swaddlebees will contain the poo better but it's a big expense you don't really need

newborn poo is explosive and will explode out of any nappy no matter how good IME

agree that the better wraps will help contain it so it doesn't get on the clothes and bed sheets but i'd expect it to get on the wrap, especially at night.

Wraps! Motherease rikki or air rika or onelife wraps are what you need.
