fransmom · 20/05/2007 20:15

erm, my 2yo doesn't seem that interested. i have said to her that we will start when she's ready - is that the right appraoch? it feels like it but sometimes i read of others ebing dry at this age. bit confused.

Shoshable · 20/05/2007 20:23

Fran do you want my old standby way of doing it, iknow ive put it up on here before but do find it works

Shoshable · 20/05/2007 20:25

POTTY TRAINING

Day 1 - 3 no clothes, ask if they want the potty, at least every 1/2 hour. Expect lots of accidents.

Day 4-7 Providing child is now making it to the potty, pants on, still reminding, first couple of days will result in wet pants, but by day 7, usually making it to the potty.

Day 7 onwards trousers on as well, still asking often, take potty EVERYWHERE with you.

If this doesn't work, would say the child isn't ready. Have done it with children from 20 months - 4 years, they are ready when they are ready, boys in general are later than girls, but saying that just had a boy dry at 22 months and a girl not till almost 4. !

charlottelouise · 20/05/2007 20:26

(sorry in advance for being smug) my dd basically trained herself, it started with number 2's, and then number 1's. i tried to train her when she was about 18months as my 92 year old grandmother gave my dd a toilet seat for her first birthday. apparently all her children were trained by the time they were 1 year old. i tried to explain that catching what came out the other end wasnt the same as being toilett trained! got dismaying looks from her every time i had to change dd's nappy. anyway dd wasnt ready, and the only way the potty got anything in it was when one of us was crying!!

charlottelouise · 20/05/2007 20:28

Also, i found that it was best if she was naked form the waist down, if she was wearing clothes/knickers, it was difficult for her to differenciate between that and a nappy and wet herself.

Shoshable · 20/05/2007 20:29

yep cahrlotte they need to get that bit firt before clothes

fransmom · 20/05/2007 20:29

thanks shosh!

charlottelouise · 20/05/2007 20:32

Does anyone have any tips to go completely dry at night?? i have toyed with the idea of waking her up for a wee before i go to bed, but im absolutly dreading it, as she is a complete monster (like me) if she gets woken up, and the idea of trying to sit her on the loo whist shes asleep/screaming doesnt sound that appealing

Shoshable · 20/05/2007 20:35

Charlotte just leave her make sure she goes before she goes to bed, and as SOON as she gets up, sooner or later you will find that she is dry, I never woke mine, and it only took a little while.

charlottelouise · 20/05/2007 20:37

She does go before she gets put to bed. my only problem is (i no she shouldnt) but she still has a full bottle of milk whilst going to sleep in bed (and unfortunatly its an actuall bottle, not a beaker. im praying she doesnt get buck teeth)
