i'm new to this site and this is my 1st post, sorry if i'm in the wrong thread

i'm expecting my 2nd child in november when my son will be 2 1/2. i was just wondering what double buggies people would recommend that would be suitable for the two ages. i've looked at phil and teds and the jane power twin but my son just seems too big for them. any advice??

Liisa, I think you need misdee .
I used the mothercare duolite . I bought it because it was one of the cheapest . Used it until my first was nearly for (for long distances)

I have an old version of this Buggy and love it!
I had a 21month agegap and my youngest is now almost 3 and we still use it now, without the Toddlerseat. The Frame is incredible sturdy, which meant, when there was no need for the Toddlerseat as such anymore but my ms may still wasn't able to walk the whole distance, he could just jump on (so no need for a Buggyboard)...
It's a fabulous Buggy it really is. I choose it over:
-side-by-side models, because with those you can have problems getting through doors, etc...and in shops...
-Jane Power Twin and Kidzcargo tandem 3 wheelers, because I feltI wouldn't have been able to use them for aslong.
-the Phil&Teds...because I didn't like the Toddlerseat that is so low on the floor, had heard stories about Dogattacks...and also took issue that the Toddler would sit basically on Car exhaust levels, and they can't see very well, neither.
-a traditional sort of Pram with Toddlerseat, like the Bertini, as they are very heavy and also was informed by peopel who used them that it's hard to get the Baby in and out of the Pram when the Toddlerseat is attached.

Anyway, have a good time searching for the right one for you!
this is my one...I have a dark red one wiht a navy Toddlerseat

I have a 15 month age gap between my dds and went for a maclaren twin traveller...its light and folds up small but is a nightmare to manouvre once they get a bit heavier, it does my back in pushing them up a hill, doesn't fit through normal doors and the bus driver will just laugh at you if you try to get on!

The only plus side is that I love having them side by side. They are 2.5 and 16mths now and chat away to each other...on the way back from the park today I looked down and saw they were holding hands....ahhhhh

Good luck and have fun shopping!

How big is your 2½year old?

For how long and how much will you use a double buggy? You might want to think about using a buggy/sling combo for the first few months, then a pushchair/buggy board, if you're not going to be doing lots of walking (bearing in mind it'll be winter.)

Best thing to do is take your ds and a 7lb bag of shopping to a pram shop and do some test driving.

Tip: if you have two of different ages, bear in mind a side-by-side job will 'pull' to the side the heavier one sits on, so make sure you get one with a bar handle or with three handles.

hi

thanks for the advice.

my son isn't really that big but when i've tried him in the front of a few buggies the hood barely fits over his head!! i was hoping to get away with just using a buggy board but with the baby being due in november it mightn't be right for over the winter time

3andnomore, i really like the look of that buggy!

thanks again

I have a 3 year old and a 4 month old. I've been using the Phil and Teds e3, and love it! The weight is really centralised, and because I have a bad back, that's important for me. Also very easy to get round the shops!

hi liisa
i would back up what others have said here, in that, my dd1 was 2.7 when dd2 was born i used the pram from first daughter this was mamas and papas 3 in 1, with buggy board, and a framed raincover (really big) was big enough to use with dd1 standing on buggy board but also under the raincover (ie protected from rain/snow) u cant get these raincovers now but could get on ebay for about £10, if thats any use

if you feel you really need a double u could always buy the above and buy a second hand duette chassis this allows you to use the 3in 1 combo u already purchased in tandem style but you can arrange the two units in any order, ie seat unit at front and carrycot at back, or car seat at front and seat at back facing away from you, or towards you.

i used one for a few weeks as a friend lent me one, but it would have been the only double i would have ever bought, due to a wrist injury i couldnt use the normal tandem style as heavist child went at front and i couldnt lift it.
this combo meant i could have carrycot at front and dd1 at the back and this was also the only tandem i found where i could fully recline the back rest for older child

certainly worth thinking about, its a great buy if you contiued using the duette and lo grows out of carrycot you can buy a second seat unit, and use two seat units, both can face you, both can face front, they can face each other, or back to back so very versitile

HTH
