I have tried ds on a few bits and bobs but he retches violently, is anyone else having any success? DS1 was like a duck to water. I am thinking of leaving ds2 until 6 months. Whats everyone else doing??

Me - started 2 weeks ago - but only coz HV made me!!! It's going reasonably well - but I think DS is getting more tummy ache than he used to. Atm he is on 2 tsps of baby rice per day, and 2 tsps of fruit puree. sounds like you should wait a bit longer if your ds is retching on more than one thing i.e. it's not just one thing he dislikes

Agonized over it when she started grabbing for food, but decided to wait until 6 months. However, we have created a monster by letting her have sips of ice water, which is now her very favorite thing in the whole entire world! She screams like a banshee if you take the glass away from her. Oh well, I suppose the longer she believes ice water is a fabulous treat the better off we are, although Aussie DH is becoming concerned that she is Americanized already because she is so fond of ice.

I'm an April baby threader, but ds is now 17 weeks and started weaning at 15 weeks..! I've bored everyone on there about it - he was basically so hungry and miserable we felt we had to start, and we now have a lovely happy full up baby! He didn't like baby rice on its own, so we only did that for a couple of days. He loves pear and sweet potato (not together!) and is now on 3 meals a day - quite big portions - and hasn't decreased his milk intake yet - although he must do soon or I'm sure he's going to pop..!

sort of half heartedly started but just giving bits of food to keep him quiet while we eat otherwise he just goes mmmmmmmmmmm through the whole meal and eats his fingers
so far just a few spoons of fromage frais, banana, trifle ! , and carrot so not exactly a balanced diet either
I start in earnest this week - god I hate this stage!
made any decisions spikeycat?

DS3 was actually a Feb babe. He's been scoffing everything I've offered him so far. Much happier baby. There is no way I could have survived just bfing until 6 months.

today I tired healthy mashed potato - hilarious results as ds pulled the most disgusted face I have ever seen in my entire life and spat it out in disgust - trifle has obviously ruined his taste buds - other mums beware

Baby born March 4th. This is his 3rd week and so far he loves weaning. He has had Carrot, mashed banana with Baby rice and formula, Pears, Apples - all organic and most of it cooked by hubby who loves to cook. Baby loving food and we weaned him because he was watching every mouthful that we ate and was very ready. He isn't too sure of butternut squash though, but still eats it. We are off on holiday when he is 26 weeks (when advised that he can have finger food ie. strips of meat from joint, partially cooked softened veggies etc. We'll wait until we are back from Spain (fruit etc. doesn't go through same process as here). Summary - He loves food!

Started at 16 weeks. Favourite is Banana and Pears. Am on holiday at the mo so only eating cans and an occasional mashed banana but has basically eaten everything she is given, although didn't really like baby rice. Is eating 3-4 sittings of mush, hasn't decreased the milk intake (actually bf every 2 hours or so still) but is basically sleeping through.
There is no way we could have lasted until 6 months as she just doesn't stop eating (is hardly ever sick). Is also grabbing at anything we have on our plates and watches us eat and mimicks us with her mouth - very funny to watch.
