My kids will do housework if I ask them, but I'm so fed up that I have to ask them! they have to take their shoes off when they enter our home, and put them into a box. An open box. But they never do!!

Coats and suff from school are just thrown anywhere. If they get hot, they just take their socks off and just leave them there etc!

they pick them up if I ask them , but im fed up asking them!! how do i teach them to pick up after themselves?

Oh God, i don't know.
My main job title is picker-bloody-upper.
Have threatened that anything left on the floor will be binned, but not very practical when it's school shoes is it?

Hilllary · 19/05/2007 15:06

Get a big bin bag and say, In future if you leave your things down I will put them in the bin and they will be gone!

If they dont believe you do it (but put their stuff in the shed) believe me they wont do it again

Please let me know when you get the answer. I find socks stuffed behind cushions! I'm fed up with hearing myself say "put it away".

Let me know the magic answer. My older 3 are teenagers and I'm still picking up and discovering hideen dirty clothes. Plus tripping over discarded shoes, constantly putting computer games back in the boxes. Argh.

Tortington · 20/05/2007 17:44

they are kids. of course you have to ask them. when picking your nose is considered a hobby why would that person want to pick up stuff on the bedroom floor.

Tortington · 20/05/2007 17:45

i don't pick up after mine. this means i don't allow sleepovers until there is a tidy room - they can't be arsed so tough shit.

bobalinga · 20/05/2007 17:53

Why do they pick their noses and wipe it under the coffee table instead of getting tissue? I've even offered to go fetch tissue if they feel the need.

DimpledThighs · 20/05/2007 17:54

i hate this too - I said to ds "I spend my whole time picking up after you" and he sadi "no you don;t you spend all your time on mumsnet."

3sEnough · 20/05/2007 17:56

Mine are a bit too young for this at the moment, but I have decided that I will put everything on the floor that I asked to be moved in their bed under the covers - I can't imagine anything worse than having to empty my bed of muddy shoes before going to sleep!
