2 year old being sick, to worry or not?

Sorry if I sound ridiculous but I just want to know wether this is normal or not.
Ds was sick all over his bed this afternoon while he napped but once we cleaned him up he was fine, back to his normal self and ate his tea like normal too.
I put it down to him being too hot in his room and that I had put him down to nap too son after his lunch.

But here we are middle of the night and he's just been sick everywhere again, same thing though he seems fine after a clean up, currently watching fireman Sam with dad.

Is this normal for them to throw up without really being ill? Like I said he seems his normal self so I don't know wether to worry or not.

Any experience you can share is appreciated.

In your shoes I'd offer regular sips of water and just keep an eye on him. Ds has been like this and then been find the next day, but keep an eye in case he worsens

delilahbucket · 25/05/2018 22:56

Probably just a bug. It's hard to tell with toddlers, but as long as it doesn't last more than 24 hours, he hasn't got a rash or becomes listless, it will pass.

lizzlebizzle33 · 25/05/2018 23:04

Thank you for replying, he's gone back to bed and DH is sleeping on the floor in his room to keep an eye on him, I'm would but we have a 6 month old who feeds all night too so I'm booked up!
I did try to give him some water but he didn't want it. Will he dehydrate just over night? Should I wake him later and try again?

Has he been to nursery today? I only ask as when similar has happened with my two, when I’ve called the nursery the following day to say they won’t be in as they’ve been sick they say “oh yes, there’s been an outbreak here”. Has he got a temperature? Normally, as he seems ok in himself, I wouldn’t wake them to try and get them to drink as often a good night’s sleep is what they need to fight off whatever is causing it. Just do what you’re doing, obviously if he gets worse revisit the plan and seek medical advice but assess him in the morning and take it from there. It’s scary when they’re ill when they’re so little, I hope he gets well very soon.

Little children react differently to bugs (and I'm sure this is one). Whilst you and I would vomit for a few hours and feel rubbish they may just be sick once or twice and be ok in between - it's not predictable. I would, as pp said just keep an eye and offer sips of water. See how he is tomorrow.

Phoenix76 · 25/05/2018 23:23

Forgot to say, mine refused water too but didn’t refuse an ice pole, sneaky way of getting some fluid in them!

lizzlebizzle33 · 26/05/2018 04:50

Well it's confirmed, tummy bug. I know because I've been up all night being sick myself. Oh god I hope the baby doesn't get it.

AIBU to ask DH to stay off work today to look after us all or should I just take a deep breathe and get on with it? WWYD?

Oh no Flowers. If DH can take the day off easily it would be great. If not you might find you're fine snuggled on sofa with buckets. Our Tv rules go out the window on sick days. Lots of fluids, ice lollies, rehydration drinks etc and sure you'll all be fine. Mine have had a solar virus the past couple of weeks -throwing up but quick recovery. Apparently going around school here.

@lizzlebizzle33,i feel for you. My 5mo and i both had diarhoea this week and only 5mo ds was vomiting. As we were in hospital at the same time for a separate issue they gave my ds Dioralyte. A few oz every 2 to 3 hours. I didn't think he would take it but he loved it. The diarhoea he had was fucking awful.

48 hours later i was throwing up through the night, had another bout of diarrhoea. DH had horrendous runs. I was absolutely fucked. DH was slightly better than i.

We have been symptom free for 48 hours now. I haven't a clue how 3yo ds hasn't had a symptom. I have a constant ear out for that wretching sound. He has never thrown up his food before so would totally freak at vomitting.

Yes to ice lollies. They helped me.

Rest up and sip water when you can
How come the voms always come at night eh???

Oh and DH had to take day off with me being worse and him needing the loo occasionally.

Hi I'm just revisiting this as we just had another episode. Ds has been fine all day and then just been sick in his sleep again.
I just don't know what's wrong, he's been fine for 3 days now, appetite was back and he seemed back to normal. I've never known a bug last this long, and why is he only sick at night?

Anybody had experience of this? It's always the bloody weekend when I want to take him to the doctors 😩

Is he drinking enough in the day? How much is he drinking

lizzlebizzle33 · 02/06/2018 02:02

Hi yes he drinks plenty, will only drink water but he has a cup with every meal and probably 3 or 4 more friending on what we're up to (he will want more if he's been running around at the park for example)

OP posts:
lizzlebizzle33 · 02/06/2018 02:03

Friending? Depending I meant to type.... So tired

veggifriedbreakfast · 02/06/2018 02:04

OK that's good, just basing on what I know from my ds. Have you kept a log of what he's eaten or could you remember, maybe it could be one food that makes him unwell.

lizzlebizzle33 · 02/06/2018 02:06

It's been on and off for a week now, I'm quite concerned. He doesn't have diarrhoea but his poop is an odd pale colour, doesn't look right.
It's just odd how he seems fine all day and then sick at night. Even after he's been cleaned up he seems ok and wants to get up and start playing.

OP posts:
lizzlebizzle33 · 02/06/2018 02:08

Yes I can remember exactly what he's eaten but I will start a log that's a good idea. The only thing I can thing may be triggering it is yogurt but he's never had a problem with it before.

veggifriedbreakfast · 02/06/2018 02:08

I'm out of ideas, but a trip to the GP really wouldn't hurt and will hopefully put your mind at rest

lizzlebizzle33 · 02/06/2018 02:15

Yes I agree, so annoying that it's Saturday tomorrow and I can't go to our doctors 😁😁 may have to take him to the walk in centre.

It's been so hot lately I was wondering if overheating at night could be causing it? Is that something that may make him sick? Anybody know?
He sleeps in just pjamas at the moment, no duvet or grow bag as its so warm at night, window is open too and I even cut his hair really short yesterday in case that's why he was so hot 😩

gower4 · 02/06/2018 13:47

Those bugs can really linger on with little ones - I don't think it's unusual, but do check with GP

efeslight · 02/06/2018 13:53

I am a fan of slightly flat coke with bugs like this. Seems to settle the stomach a bit. Hope it clears up soon.
