Baby not cutting teeth in usual order

Baby cut bottom 2 middle incisers a month or so ago and i assumed that the teeth he was cutting now were his top middle incisers but he has actually cut the lateral ones at the top instead. Is this a concern or just one of those things? Just wondering if it means he doesnt have the central ones or its common for them to cut strange. Thanks!

My DS cut his differently too! He seemed to get 3 or 4 through at a time bless him Sad he got his middle two bottom ones, then his top middle and top next-to-the-canine ones all together

It's quite common for babies to cut their teeth in that order! There is a 'usual' order but they're all different.

venus417 · 25/05/2018 07:46

Oh thats good then! I thought this would be the case but a friend of mines baby never had the bottom middle teeth so they just never cut. I thought usual wouldnt mean always though, thanks guys 😊

Have you registered your baby with a dentist? Give them a ring if you have - they'll keep an eye out for any issues.

Totally normal, though, to teethe "out of order". It's called cross-teething, and can be more painful, but it's nothing to worry about.

KatyN · 25/05/2018 11:39

It’s also expected that they will lose their baby teeth and grow adult teeth in the same ‘funny’ order.

Newmanwannabe · 25/05/2018 11:43

My ds did this. He’s now losing some baby teeth, but in the “proper” order

PurplePotatoes · 25/05/2018 11:45

My DS did this too but they're all here now with no problems. I didn't know it was supposed to be more painful!

TheDishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 25/05/2018 11:45

Don't worry op, although it isn't the usual order it's perfectly normal and nothing to worry about!
How old is your baby? I would get them registered with a dentist and they can keep an eye on it if the front teeth don't come through
I don't see any reason why it would be more painful to erupt in that order either so don't worry! Smile

TheDishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 25/05/2018 11:49

Apparently teething isn't actually painful anyway and it's normally just an illness which coincides with tooth eruption. If you think most of the time wen adult teeth erupt that doesn't hurt only if there is some inflammation in the overlying gum.
That's what the evidence says, but I have always been a bit dubious of it.

glitterbiscuits · 25/05/2018 12:13

My PFB DS teeth did exactly the same OP. Do not worry. I was convinced he had some syndrome not yet known to science. He hasn’t. Totally normal. My paranoid parenting didn’t last long. Turns out I’m too lazy.

@TheDishRanAwayWithTheSpoon My dentist told me that the official line is that teething isn't painful - then he laughed and said "so clearly the books have it wrong!".

I'd guess adult teeth don't hurt because for most of them there's already a "hole" to come into - the previous tooth has left one. Some people do have horrendous trouble with adult teeth, too.

TheDishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 25/05/2018 19:36

belfastsmile that's why I am dubious, the evidence says no but babies cry a lot when they are teething.

When the adult molars come in they dont hurt, it doesnt really work on there being a hole, but even if it does theres no 'hole' with the molars. They cause problems when there's an infection in the gum over the tooth, maybe that's what happens with baby teeth?

KatyP1975 · 25/05/2018 20:23

I've got 3 children of my own and I foster babies so lots of experience of teething! Some don't seem to notice but others definitely do. The baby we have at the moment sleeps 12 hours a night no problems apart from the 3 nights before cutting a tooth. We're on night two of unsettled nights so expecting a new tooth on Sunday!
