Ranitidine

My 22week DD has been prescribed ranitidine as the Gaviscon is no longer working

Has anyone had experience in using this? Did it help your LO?

I pick it up today from the pharmacy, so I've not yet tried it. Smile

It worked well for my child, from 4w to 1yo. It's important to space the doses as evenly through the day as you can, as it does wear off rather than build up IYKWIM.

Good luck Flowers

Worked wonders for DD - we went from all day screaming to a contented baby in a matter of days. Good luck!

Worked for my son too along with reflux formula. It tastes vile though.

Worked wonders for DS too after Gaviscon stopped working. Took a couple of days and he was like a new baby! Still being sick, but not crying/miserable with it. God send!

Yes, it worked brilliantly for my DC. It is strong tasting, but my DC actually quite liked it! Def meant that feeding was easier and you could see the pain wasn't there anymore. Just make sure to regularly check the dosage. It is based on weight, so as your DC gets heavier, the dosage will need to increase. If it starts being less effective, it prob means it's time to increase the amount given. I used to just ring our Doctors, give the new weight and the doc would call back letting me know if I needed to increase.

It made SO much difference! Went from a baby who howled and screeched in pain every time I laid her down to a baby who would then lay down beautifully, and she slept so much better too. It was like having a totally different baby.

The only thing is to keep on top of knowing her weight, as the dosage went on weight, so we had to keep adjusting. The pharmacy or gp will be able to do this for you

It was amazing dosage is based on weight as your lo gets bigger you may need the dosage increased.

Yes my baby was prescribed this at around 6 weeks and was off it again before she was 12 months. It was great, really stopped her pain. I use to measure out the dose in the syringe provided, then put it in a medicine dummy to give to her. It made it much easier to administer.

Thanks everyone, you've filled me with such hope! The last week has been awful, and I feel like I'm losing the plot!

Every feed has been an uphill struggle!

I went to pick up the Ranitidine from the chemist to find out that they ordered the wrong strength! 🙄 So I have to wait until tomorrow lunch time to get the correct one!

(I live in a small rural village and it's the only chemist)

Probably too late but maybe you could take that strength and get GP to recalculate dosage.

Rantitadine and gaviscon can be used together is necessary but I would try to avoid the gaviscon.

Hi

I've managed to get some this morning! But I think it's too early to see any change. She's still screaming every time I come close to her with the bottle! 🤦🏽‍♀️
