Flying with 9 month old and worried about timings

In the summer we are going abroad for a friend's wedding. My DH booked the flights last year and there was only one time to choose from. In hindsight, we should have flown from a different airport so that we could be more flexible with times, but I was heavily pregnant and exhausted and just told my DH to book them.

We will be leaving at 9.30pm and arriving at 00.45. Then will need to transfer to the hotel.

DS will be 9 and a half months old. He doesnt sleep through and although I am relaxed to a point over his routine I do like him to stick to it because it helps massively with his night time sleep. He won't sleep in a sling if we're out and about, he will in his pram or in my arms.

Is it me, or are these nightmare times? DH doesn't see the problem at all. Im worried that it will completely throw DS out of routine and that his sleep will be affected.

Its not just his routine, I don't like the thought if him not being tucked up in his cot and comfy at that time. Im aware that is probably a bit silly Blush

Has anyone done this? Will it be ok?

Flying back is a bit better so not so worried about that.

You'll be fine. He will probably sleep on the flight then walk up when you land. Hopefully he'll go back to sleep when you arrive at your accommodation. Just try and be flexible a go with the flow.
I took my son to Australia at 9 months. His routine went up the wall for a couple of days but we soon got back on track.

Thank you! That's what I wanted to hear. I do have anxiety and it can get a a bit wrapped up in his routine sometimes. I think I drive my DH mad with 'but what about his routine??' Blush

I think I just needed to know it wasn't bad for him or anything, thank you!

Just go with it and it will be fine. I think you’ll be surprised it works better than you think. I’d recommend a sling for the plane/airport. Mine was 4 when we last flew (long haul 11 hours). We booked it for late afternoon expecting she’d wear herself out in the airport and get on the plane and go to sleep early evening as usual.

Nope! She was awake for all 11 hours!! Wide awake. She fell asleep on my dh’s shoulder as we were queuing to leave the plane! She woke up about 15 minutes later and pretty much ended up being awake 24 hours straight until the next evening! If you are going to a wedding, your routine will be all turned upside down anyway. I’d just recommend one of you sleeps on the plane and then can take over for the overnight/early morning when you get there.

He’ll be fine. Hopefully you’ll get lucky and he’ll sleep the entire time. He’ll soon get back to his normal routine within a day or 2. And I’ve taken my 2 kids from US to UK several times, they are very adaptable
