At what age do children begin to have “proper” conversations?

By “proper” I mean casual chatting rather than endless questions or answering my questions or describing what pepos pig is going lol!

Urgh, I can’t have proper conversations yet obviously!

I meant “what Peppa Pig is doing”.

3/4?

About 4. Mine had speech delay, so it wasn't always wholly intelligible to people but me, but I'd say about then.

Hmm I can casually chat with my 4 year old - but it's a bit self-centered/surreal, rather than casual shooting the breeze

I'd say that I've been able to have normal conversations with my 7 year old for a little while though - just casual stuff about weather, how he liked dinner/whatever.

2 and a half although speech and language is a strength of dd's

3/4 for my eldest.

Before aged 3 for my youngest Shock

Both bilingual. Both enjoy proper conversations back and forth and moving the conversation forwards.

My 5 year old niece on the other is a brilliant speaker...but just does monologues and doesn't answer your questions.

I can have proper conversations with my 2 year old but his speech and language is very strong for his age.

My cousin's daughter was around 4 to be able to have "proper" communications. Well, I've still remembered at that time my cousin sent her daughter to a programme called UK-China Grow Along Programme for the sake of chatting with kids with the same age and getting closer to Chinese culture.
