Allergic reaction to hummus?

Hi there, I am just looking for some advice. My DS (18 months) started new nursery today. They had hummus as a snack at 3pm. Then phoned me at 4.30 saying I should just be prepared when I see him that his eyes are 'slightly puffy' and it seem like it was either snack/being in the garden. When I arrived to fetch him at 4.45 his eye was swollen shut and he was quite upset. He stopped crying when I picked him up. I burst out crying (pregnancy hormones!) and the nursery staff found some piriton. We gave that to him and he seemed better. He went to bed fine but his eye is still swollen? I know he had a slight sensitivity to sesame seeds / tahini as a younger baby - this is next level, but am I over/under-reacting? Will he be okovernight and should I take him to the GP tomorrow morning (don't want to waste their time!)?
Thank you!

He needs to be referred for an allergy test. It’s likely the sesame if you think he’s reacted before. You can be exposed to an allergen several times and not react before having a bad reaction. Some allergies will get worse with each exposure. I’d personally be pushing to get a epi-pen if there was swelling involved. It’s hard having an allergic child! Sorry. My dd has swelling of mouth and lips (nut allergy) but did in the past have a eye swelling reaction to a vaccine. The doc just advised Piriton and if your dad seems well I’m sure there’s nothing more you can do tonight. Maybe phone 111 for peace of mind though?

Yep allergy testing. My profile is similar, houmous, tahini, seseme, all pulses and anything with soya in it (including soya lecithin, which is in chocolateAngry) make me itch like mad. Hence the user name. Oh yeah and E442

My DS is allergic to sesame. So no hummus. And same as above, I’d be looking for allergy testing and an epi pen. DS is allergic to egg peanut and sesame, but we didn’t realize with the sesame as he was happily eating sesame seed bagels, but tahini is made from the oil which is stronger

Thank you for the comments ladies! We did phone 111 just to check and they wanted to see him out of hours - been prescribed a non-sedative antihistamine and have an allergy test referral. He still has a bit of a puffy face today but otherwise he seems fine. I didn't realise but now it seems like a sesame seed allergy is quite common! Luckily the nursery seems switched on - they have sesame seed buns on the menu today but luckily noticed and gave him an alternative. Smile
