Hi All,
Going away for a night and taking my tommee tippee prep machine with us for my 14 week old baby. Am I ok to use bottled water in the prep machine or shall I take tap water in a bottle with me?xx

Bottled water isn’t recommended for making formula.. the sodium content is too high

Ok thank you - so best I take tap water in a water bottle?x

You can use Evian water, it’s safe for babies (they have a section on their website about it) we went away for a week in Spain and used Evian all week for the bottles.

Would I be able to use the tommee tippee to prep the water for the day and the milk and heat up when needed? FTM and overthink everything haha xx

It only lasts 2 hours after you make a bottle using the TT machine.

When we go out/on holiday we replicate the TT machine. My DD has 7 oz bottles, we take a bottle of cooled boiled water and either get hot water from somewhere (or boil Evian if abroad) or take a flask, put say 3oz of boiling water in and add the powder to kill any bacteria - just like the first TT prep machine shot, and then add 4 and 1/2 oz cooled boiled water to make it the right temperature. The extra half oz is because of the powder bulking the water.

Sorry that this sounds long winded but it takes us seconds and it makes the right temperature when out and about and you know it’s fresh.

I get you! Could I not just use the water from the tt and add the milk when baby needs it? Because we are going away bit dubious about using the kettle!xx

The water has to be boiling when the powder goes in (to kill any bacteria within the milk) so that’s why you need hot water, and if you add the milk in the morning to the TT water it will go off within 2 hours so it will have to be fresh hot water.

The water needs to be heated to boiling and left to cool then added to the perfect prep. The perfect prep only heats it to 70 so it doesn’t kill any nasties in the water.
