I am due with my 2nd at start of October. My DS will be 22months. Which double buggys have you tried and rate? I am thinking bugaboo donkey or montano buggy duet as want something narrow?! Any suggestions welcome! Ps do I need even need a double?! Would love to hear your opinions.

I had 17 months between my two and got an I candy peach. (Second hand). I was still using it when child 1 was well over 2 years. If you’re doing any amount of walking it’s very useful; you can load the stuff you need onto it and put the kids in when you need to.
The I candy is heavy though, but we have a narrow hallway so was necessary. The Phil and Ted didn’t appeal to me as the bottom seat was so low.

18 months difference here. We bought a bugaboo donkey from licakbfacebook site and still use it daily 18 months later euther as a double or single.and buggy board.

It is a great double- very flexible and amazingly light but it isn't narrow so if that's what you are after you would be better off not getting a side by side. My friend has the Uppababy vista and she loves that but it is quite heavy.

I have used both a mountain buggy duet and a bugaboo donkey and infinitely prefer the mountain buggy. The bugaboo has barely any storage and I don’t find it as comfortable to push. Plus, it may just be our one but we’ve had repeated problems with the wheels getting caught on the frame or puncturing or locking.

I’d go for the mountain buggy everytime, lovely to push, loads of storage, you can also put a bag over the handle easily which I find I can’t on the bugaboo. And I really miss knowing that I’d fit everywhere with it, the bugaboo feels huge in comparison and I don’t feel like the children are any more comfortable for the extra space.

We have a Donkey with a 21 month gap and would not be without it. Whether you need a double depends on your lifestyle though. We walk everywhere with the kids. At weekends we often go out for lunch and then both fall asleep in the buggy on the way home which is a godsend. I wouldn't want to be having to get a tired 2 yo home on a buggyboard.

If you can I would definitely go and try both out with DC1. The Mountain Buggy is narrower but that means the seats are too. So unless DC1 is very slim you might be better with the Donkey. DD1 is now 3 and still has plenty of room.

We have the MB Duet and love it. Folds easily, light so can steer one handed, bags of storage, fits thru standard doorway and in boot of normal family car and doesn't cost a bomb.

16 months between my two. I have a second hand basic Maclaren. It's so heavy I can barely lift it up a kerb and it's very difficult to collapse. I can't get it through shop doors in our village.

Mine are 2 and 3 now and I hardly use it.

We are currently using the baby jogger city mini double. We love it! It's so lightweight and easy to push and had a really easy fold. It takes up hardly any space and lasts well. I'd really recommend it

22 month difference and another fan of the Mountain Buggy Duet. Fits through single doors and onto buses which is a win for me

NameChangeCuzImAHorriblePerson · 13/05/2018 20:02

My sister has the mountain buggy duet and I wish I'd bought it. I have an oyster max duet and it's shit frankly put, unless you're using car seats on it. I'll be selling it soon as the boys will be out of their first car seats.

I bought a joie aire twin and I recommend it. It was only £120 and is light, folds flat so stands nicely in the house, and fits in my boot. It's also suitable from birth and each seat reclines separately. My only gripe is that the basket is quite high up so not easy to access with both seats reclined fully.

ILikeMyChickenFried · 13/05/2018 20:06

My twins have the MB duet. It's a fabulous thing, mostly because it's so narrow for a side by side. It fits through my front door so I can wheel sleeping babies inside to finish their naps and it easily fits on a bus.

It is quite long which took me a little getting used to but now I've sorted that I love how easy it is to push around.

daisychain07 · 13/05/2018 21:15

Thank you everyone, your comments are really helpful. I am definitely going to go and try them both out. My dc1 isn't wide but is very tall for his age but I am swaying towards mountain buggy duet at the moment but will have to see how comfortable he is in it.

Is mountain buggy duet suitable from birth? I haven't really researched in it. Also does anyone know any shops that may have it on display? I have a local independent store that has the donkey that we can try. Whatever we go for i will be getting it second hand after the test drives!!

I am a bit annoyed as I have an egg at the moment and love it. Part of the reason I brought it was because it can turn into tandem should I have another but now I'm not sure if I want one under the other on the pushchair! I am probably being silly and dh does eye roll at me when I talk about it!!

Another vote for the baby jogger city mini double. It’s brilliant, comfy seats, easy fold down, slimline, smooth to push, loved mine!

DappledThings · 13/05/2018 21:50

There is a separate carrycot you can get for the MB that slots into the flattened seat. I used that from birth. The seat does go totally flat so you might be able to just use it as is but I like the carrycot.

Tomorrow is first day I'm going to try her just in seat (she's 4.5 months now) so I'll have a carrycot spare after that if you're anywhere near East Kent!

teaandbiscuitsforme · 14/05/2018 03:14

I have a 21mo gap and have the Uppababy Vista as a tandem. I'm not sure how the Egg seats are positioned but I've never felt like one was below the other.

I like the flexibility of the tandem. Mine are 16mo and 3 now and we rarely use the second seat but it was an essential when we really needed it in that first year particularly. No idea how the Egg works but I got the tandem car seat adapters first to see whether we'd use it as a tandem, so had DD in the seat and DS in his infant car seat. I realised how much you really do need it with this age gap and got the second seat when DS was about 4 months.

teaandbiscuitsforme · 14/05/2018 03:16

Ah, just looked at pictures of the Egg as a tandem. One seat is much more below the other than it is on the Vista so I see your point!

I wouldn't go for the MB with a tall toddler. The seats always look tiny to me.

bulldogmum · 14/05/2018 03:33

I have a 3 month old and a 2 year old, we have the baby jogger citi mini gt and love it. Super easy to fold, light to push, seats go flat so never used the carry cot, fits thru most doors. Wouldn’t be without it now. We tried using our single pram with a buggy board to avoid buying a double buggy and it was no fun trying to keep the toddler still on the buggy board. Baby jogger was a game changer.
