Hi, I wasn’t sure where to post this with it being both child and buying related. I have recently bought a thermos food flask for my toddler and I’m disappointed that it doesn’t keep his food warm for very long. He won’t eat sandwiches so I don’t have much choice regarding other options to take out. Does anybody know of any that actually do what they promise?

Sorry but no- I dont really tend to take warm food out with me. I make dd other things for her lunch- Annabel Karmel or.other BLW ideas have bite things you can bulk make so i make a few batches of those, freeze them and bring them with me in her packed lunch. Or I buy hot food from the kids menu when we're out

Ds doesn’t eat sandwiches or bits (believe me I’ve tried( and likes a hot lunch and there’s no kids menu when we go for a picnic/long car journeys or similar. Thanks for letting me know you don’t use a food flask.

Does he eat the food if its cold?

isthistoonosy · 12/05/2018 05:49

We've not found any good food flask so tend to take things that you can add hot water to or heat with hot water instead. So soup, porridge, cous cous, pre cooked pasta, hotdogs. If you use baby jars maybe you could heat them enough that way as well.

PasstheStarmix · 12/05/2018 08:36

@Smurfy23 I only just bought it and it was perfect eating temperature after 2 hours so great when we came to use it but it made me think it wouldn’t be after longer.

Thanks isthistoonosy but ds won’t eat jars or preprepared meals as he’s not used to them. For quickness I was going to use one the other day and he woudnt eat it so I had to take him something homemade and he polished it off. Soup is a good idea as he will eat bread sticks and things dipped in too.

I’m hoping he will like sandwiches soon as it would be a lot easier!

It weird as he’ll eat things like cheese on toast and toast dipped in soup but I give him a sandwich he will spit it out.

Do you pour hot water in before you put in the food? We have a Thermos funtainer that dd uses for pasta in her packed lunches and it keeps it hot until, lunchtime.

OpposableThumbs2 · 12/05/2018 08:45

My Thermos keeps things hot for several hours. Are you filling it? A toddler sized portion would leave a lot of air in there which would cool it down. Also, heat it with boiling water before you put the food in.

PasstheStarmix · 12/05/2018 08:46

Thanks Savoy, I’ve only used it once and I poured boiling water in and left for ten minutes as instructions advised and then put the piping hot food in. After 2 hours it was warm and perfect eating temperature but after any longer it would have been cold. It was advertised as keeping hot for 5. That’s strange because I have the thermos fountainer too in blue.

Hi OpposableThumbs2 yes preheated with water as per instructions. It’s filled pretty much full as ds eats a good kids portion sized meal, he has two weetabix for breakfast for example and will have a big bowl of soup with a whole slice of toast.

Maybe it’s faulty then. We got ours when dd was a toddler as she was like your dd, no sandwiches, and she’s eleven now and it’s in constant use and the food is always hot. She’s eating either four hours after I put it in of five hours if she goes to breakfast club.

PasstheStarmix · 12/05/2018 10:17

Thanks Savoy, i wonder if it depends on the colour or something or they’ve changed it with you having had yours awhile. I got ds the dark blue one. They do a silver blue and yellow one which is slightly different. Can I be cheeky and ask what one you have?

Mine is this one but the pictures have come off over the years in the dishwasher.

Thanks, this is the one i have. Hmmm I’ll see it there’s some different variants that may be better as they do another that’s priced differently.
