Keeping baby cool abroad

Hi all

My dd is 9 months old we are going away to Italy in 4 weeks, where we are means we will be out quite a lot during the day.. with it being hot at the moment I have realised how challenging it can be to keep baby cool out and about

I'm planning on getting a pram fan, keeping the shade on her and a getting a parasol... (obviously lots of water and food etc) has anyone got any other tips? I have got a cotton sun hat for her already

• can anyone recommend a good fold up pushchair with a good hood/shade & a big basket (we have a silver cross pioneer so can take away but not really practical size wise)
• is it better to keep her just in a nappy, a vest or completely covered in loose cotton?
• a good parasol / sun shade which doesn't make her warm in the pram

Thanks everyone! X

Think you might need to review how long and when you go outside. First thing and after about 4/5 will be coolest. Maybe a long nap indoors over lunchtime/early afternoon. Whereabouts are you going?

@LIZS thanks for replying we're going to Italy, there will be times when we can do this but other places are a train/drive away so could potentially make sure we have lunch around those times to get inside for a while

I've had three babies in Italy and never had a pram fan! I would cover up with cotton clothes to avoid getting too much sun. Stay in the shade and avoid the hottest times of day. Are you in the north or south?

Yes I meant where in Italy! The climate will vary from one area to another. Will you have aircon? Also beware of mossies.

The M&P tour has quite a decent hood and lies back.

I've had both my babies in the Middle East, plenty of fluid, cool fruits like watermelon are good at keeping them cool, get indoors over the hottest periods when you can.

I used to let mine have ice lollies (home made) but that's probably not that feasible! If you're staying SC then freeze some fruit like strawberries, raspberries.

I'm not that far from Florence and it's raining at the moment!

Your holiday will be a lot easier if you are baby centric. Your post about trains and drives made me think you are planning this like a pre-baby holiday. That is probably a recipe for tears all round! Working around naps and what the baby wants will probably make for a more pleasant holiday for all concerned.

I've been in Florence in early July and it was scorching.
