Rude children

Hi I need some advice please. My sisters kids are really very rude. There is a big age gap of 15 years between them. The lack of manners and level of rudeness is the same and I'm appealed by it. My sister and my mum treat the youngest who is 7 like she can do no wrong. She talks back like a stroppy teenager. I asked her yesterday to please stop wiping her muddy feet on my new rug. Her response was "make me". When my sister is around she completely ignores this bad behaviour. Same niece is not allowed to play with kids at school, in her street or anywhere in fact be because my sister says other kids keep bullying her. However I think my niece is the Bully! I have seen her treat her friends terribly. I don't like my 5 year old being around her but I can't always avoid it. My son is a typical boy and has no interest in girly squabbles and tell tales. She often it's him and he won't retaliate he simply refuses to play with her until she apologises. However my sister gets super defensive and hugs and kisses her little princess who is being "bullied". She is my niece and I feel awful but I can't stand to be around her. I can't talk to her mum she thinks people are jealous of her little princess. She treated her other daughter this way and she is now 20 and total trouble so you think she would learn. For info Dad's not around much.

Your sister has no respect for you.

If I were you, I would stop spending time with her for a while

Smeddum · 07/05/2018 14:16

“Make me”? At that point I’m afraid I would have.
She’s doing her child no favours at all in fact it sounds like she’s a very lonely and isolated child. All because your sister can’t be arsed to parent, how sad.

Did you challenge your sister about it?

Wolfiefan · 07/05/2018 14:20

At the point of the "make me" response I would have asked your sister to get her kid to wind her neck in or leave.
Don't have them round your house.

7yo girl says "make me"
Me - Ok Ive asked you to take your shoes off, Im asking you again or you need to go back in the garden
Girl - No
Me - in that case lets go and find your mother because its time you left.

I wouldnt accept any nonsense of that sort in my house.

What was your response when your niece said 'Make me?'
If you dont/wont stand up to a child in your own home , you can't be mad at your sister for doing the same thing.

Mammy73 · 07/05/2018 15:29

Hi in response to my niece saying make me I did make her! I picked her up and moved her away from rug and told her to go play in garden with other kids. Her mum wasn't there. There is always a fear of telling her off because she tells mummy and mummy gives her sympathy and hugs. Its a nightmare.

My sister says I need to chill out. I have told her I think they all lack basic manners. I can't and don't want to cut them out of my life but I hate really don't like being around her kids

Don't look after her then. Ever. If her mum won't back you up then don't have either in your house.

Clutterbugsmum · 07/05/2018 16:29

My sister says I need to chill out. isn't funny how when parents refuse to parent their misbehaving children everyone else needs to chill out.

While I understand why you do still want them in your life, then I think you need to see them out side your house, but also somewhere where you can leave them to it and go home so you don't have to deal with them.
