My newborn doesn’t sleep very much- problem?

I guess I’m looking for a little reassurance despite what the baby books say!
My DS is 9 weeks (also my PFB!). So I’m new at all of this.
We had a difficult pregnancy and he was diagnosed with IUGR at birth (a long baby but weighing 2374g / 5lbs 3oz). He was very sleepy for the first week or so but for the following 4-5 weeks he cluster fed from 9pm-2am most days and once every 1-2 hours in the day. As a result he gained 7lbs and is now at a normal weight.
My question is about his sleeping. He still feeds anything from every 1-3 hours including at night. His longest unbroken sleep was 4 hours. As a result I worry he doesn’t sleep enough across 24 hours. In an average night he might get 8-9 hrs max, in short bits, even though I take him to bed at 9pm and get up about 8am. This is because of feeds etc. In the day he will get another 3 or so hours in the pram, sleeping on me etc. This doesn’t seem enough. Any thoughts whether this is a problem? Confused and if so what I could do? He’s a calm baby apart from all the feeds: not colicky, doesn’t cry much etc

Sounds pretty normal to me to be honest, but if you're concerned as your health visitor.

DD2 is almost 11 weeks now and sleeps in 3-6 (it varies) hour slots at night before waking to be fed, and sleeps in short bursts throughout the day sometimes 20 minutes, sometimes an hour, she has been like this for 2 weeks now. She is not a calm baby like my first she is fussy and generally unsettled most days due to reflux and wind.

Sounds normal.

Baby sleep changes a lot. And not always for the better I'm afraid

I have a 12 week old boy and I’ve worried about sleep. Just starting to come out of the colic stage but I think he now has mild reflux. Sleeps well at night can go 6-8hours (formula fed) but during the day can be hard work. He can stay awake for hours and then on his worst days it ends in a meltdown! Doctor and health visitor have always put it down to his colic but I’m not sure now. Just hope it improves!

My DS was similar, always awake and feeding in the first few months. It does get better as he gets older.

(I don't know where you are standing with feeding and it's just a suggestion, but if it gets to exhausting for you I recommend a formula feed in the evening. Formula takes longer to digest and therefore your baby will sleep longer= longer sleep for you. I've done this with both of mine and it was a lifesaver.
Now a lot of people will say don't do it for various valid reasons, so only do what you are comfortable with. )
