2 year old fell down the stairs

My 2 year old was going up the stairs with DS on her way to bed when DS shut the top stair gate on her. This had the effect of pushing her backwards down the stairs. She cried loads and seemed to be sleepy afterwards although this might have been because she was tired anyway as it was getting late. In a panic, I rang 111 who advised to go to the children’s hospital. Currently sat there now watching her jump around in the soft play area. She seems absolutely fine and i’m so tempted to take her home but there is the thought that what if something terrible happens. I would never forgive myself if she did have an injury. If it had happened at any other time, I would have monitored her before calling. Can head injuries manifest later or should I take her home?

I would stay and get her checked out. You are there now so you may as well, better safe than sorry. She is probably absolutely fine but head injuries can be funny things so best to be checked.

P.S. my kids have done this every single time I've been to A&E with them (about 3 times). Absolutely bloody fine and bouncing around once we got there. They know how to wind us up don't they?

It sounds like she is fine, but its probably best to get her checked just in case. I hope you aren't waiting long!

Kids can often play and jump about with broken bones and fractures; suggest you stay and get her checked out.

My daughter did this at 2 last year and included a nasty roll - she was fine Apart from carpet burn on her face but healed no issues.

Stay and get checked out- you would never forgive yourself if something happened. Don't panic if your HV or doctor phones in next few days as sometimes they are informed and make a wee call to ensure all are ok.

Yes, i’ve decided to stay for peace of mind. I feel guilty for wasting the medics time though as she is leaping about like a lunatic! It’s a pity it’s a 2 and a half hour wait 😢

Be warned you’ll get a hv phone call follow up asking how she did it - always helpful for parents who already feel bad enough!
