My son who was 1 a few weeks ago will NOT drink cows milk !!!
He's had it in cereal for months and no problem but will not budge from formula !
Was starting to get excited about not paying £11 a tub with a gannet drinker but apparently not !!:(

Any advice would be very much appreciated ! X

Try mixing cows milk with the formula?

DrEustaciaBenson · 28/04/2018 19:49

My mother tells me I would never drink milk when I was a toddler. Never have, still don't. I did and still do like rice puddings, butter, cheese, eggs, yogurt. You could try giving him all those for the nutrition, and water to drink. (I don't know what I drank when I was a toddler, probably water or squash.)

elmo1980 · 28/04/2018 19:55

Mine was the same but started replacing small amounts of formula with cows milk and increased it over a period of weeks now he is completely off formula (15 and a half months).

My problem now is I can't get him to drink it cold or from anything other than a baby bottle...

My baby was the same. I mixed formula with a slash of cows' milk. Then gradually increased the amount of cows' milk over about 6 weeks. By 1 she was only have milk first thing in the morning and last thing at night and I still BF once during the night. She loves cows' milk now!

TeddyIsaHe · 28/04/2018 19:55

Mix cows milk with the formula, and then each time you do it add slightly less formula and slightly more cows milk until one day it’s just cows milk.

Also try Arla big milk, for some reason my daughter will not drink regular cows milk and loves this. Plus it’s fortified which gives me peace of mind.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 28/04/2018 19:56

Just give him cheese and yoghurt instead.

Pickledgerkingsareathing · 28/04/2018 21:06

Gonna give the mixing idea a go ! Don't know why it didn't cross my mind as that's what I done to get him off formula with cereal ! Baby brain :/ he hates cheese but will happily sit and eat yogurts all day every day If I let him x

Yoghurt is the only answer for us. DC was bf and refused formula when offered shortly after he turned 1 and he will now only drink water. He used to hate cheese but now complains if he doesn't get any whenever we happen to open the fridge, so your DS may change his mind.

RBBMummy · 28/04/2018 21:09

Just don't give milk at all

GummyGoddess · 28/04/2018 21:11

@RBBMummy The advice is to give them milk though.

RBBMummy · 28/04/2018 21:14

If they aren't eating enough of a balanced diet

tomhazard · 28/04/2018 21:18

Mine never would- not mixed with formula or any temperature or in any vessel!
He is 3 now and totally fine- has milk on cereal every day, will eat a bit of yoghurt and will eat cheese now and again. He's just not a big dairy fan. Just keep offering and if he won't go for it don't sweat it and just cook with it and give yoghurt and cheese

GummyGoddess · 28/04/2018 21:21

The GP and health visitors said that DC needs a cup of whole milk or two servings of dairy food a day. In DC's case it's yoghurt and cheese because he hates milk since he weaned off of me. He's only very recently decided cheese isn't poisonous and we're reluctant to give him multiple yoghurts every day, not least because he gets bored after a few minutes and likes to flick the spoon around and splatter it everywhere and then cry because it's gone.

RBBMummy · 28/04/2018 21:30

Dairy isn't a necessary food

GummyGoddess · 29/04/2018 10:13

Calcium is necessary, he's only tiny and there are not enough other calcium rich foods that we can get into him. Dairy is essential for his calcium intake as supplements are out for us, are you vegan?

Both mine stopped having milk at about 1- they’re still alive and perfectly healthy! Cows milk is gross to drink anyway, I don’t blame them tbh

RBBMummy · 29/04/2018 10:59

Dairy is not the only or even the best source of calcium. If it was vital my child and many others with allergies would not survive. But they do and thrive.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 01/05/2018 09:38

If you give him 3 yoghurts a day that's enough dairy. 😆

Jakc · 01/05/2018 09:40

What about plant milk? There’s plenty of different options rather than the milk meant for a baby calf

Lightsong · 01/05/2018 09:46

Mine also refused cows milk, or any other type of milk, out of any kind of receptacle other than my boob. We just did as PPs, lots of yoghurt and cheese and sneaked milk into cooking wherever possible.
