Night time training

Thinking of night time training during half term. Ds is 3yo now and has been dry in the day for well over 6 months. He quite often has a dry nappy in the morning, after waking at 11ish to wee. He doesn't consistently wake up though, so I'm wondering whether it's the right time or to wait. If I do start any advice out there, I'm sure there's lots. Come on MNetters don't let me down.

Go for it! If he's normally dry in the mornings then he's probably ready.

Get a plastic sheet thingy and do it.

hi

My daughter seems at the same stage so we have tried for the last 3 nights. She was dry the first night, got herself up and weed in her potty by the bed but then has wet the bed for the next 2 nights.

We're a tad confused, do we carry on or do we assume she's not ready yet and go back to nappies for a couple of weeks?

How do you know to carry on or not?

Can anyone recommend a good plastic sheet or someone once told me to get an incontinence sheet thing and cut it up to make squares and layer the bed? Where's the best place to get one from. The mattress cover I bought before has all ripped, so need to get a new one.

ok!
I suggest:
traditional rubber waterproof sheet (cause the dont seem to disinitegrate too quickly)

mattress protector so its not sweaty

a sheet

an bed mat (that boots / mother care sell for about £10)

a sheet

an bed mat

a sheet.

the reason for this is that when children roll around IME they sort of scrunch up /miss the mat thing and the bed gets wet anyway.... the sheet holds it in place.

This way if there is an accident you can rip off the top sheet and top mat, and have a sheet and mat dry underneath, and even if that gets wet you still have a dry sheet and the matress is still wholey protected by the rubber sheet anyway so even if they wet for a third time, the bed is still ok!

It can then all be sorted in the morning.

you could use pamapers mats, but they are expensive and im sure in the long run a couple of mats is the less expensive option, especially as wet PJs etc will be in the washing machine anyway.

You can then use then on oterh children.... or keep one on the bed all the time just inc ase of occasional accidents once they are reliably dry.

am just bumping this - wondering why me and flowerfairy haven't had many replies/advice. Come on mumsnet mums - tell us about night time training...or are you all out shopping spending the money you no longer spend on nappies? woo hoo!!
