Perfect prep worth it?

Debating whether or not to buy a perfect prep machine. Are they really worth it? Anyone who doesn't use one, how do you make up and store bottles? Especially for the nighttime feeds as I can't go back to making one up every time baby needs fed!

Love it! Picked one up for £50 in Mothercare sale. Only fussy thing about it is remembering to buy new filters every 3 months but we have reminders on our phone to remind us.

Makes night feeds sooo much easier when you don't have to stand there waiting for the milk to cool down whilst baby is crying for it!

Best thing we bought hands down, worth every penny and I did loads of research before we got it.

It had some bad press on watchdog but if the cleaning process is followed and the back unscrewed and checked monthly then you will have no issues.

We make them up as we go, if we’re going out and need a bottle within two hours we take one made from the machine, if going out longer we take powder and I have a clever way of replicating the machine so my DD doesn’t have to wait for a bottle.

also, you don’t need to buy TT filters, I use Wilkinson’s which are 3 for £5 instead of TT one for £10. Literally the same.

I thought the fake filters and not cleaning the machine properly were linked to those instances of mouldy pipes? Don’t get me wrong I’m a huge PP fan and would recommend it hands down but I would stop at using Wilko filters to save a few £.

OfDragonsDeep · 27/04/2018 19:19

I loved mine. I am lazy though!

Parentingissotough · 27/04/2018 19:21

Definitely. Do it.

GlennRheeismyfavourite · 27/04/2018 19:54

My baby refuses bottles - total waste of money for me!

Steeley113 · 27/04/2018 21:02

I pre-make so never bothered. My friend offered me hers when she’s finished but I never bothered.

sthitch · 27/04/2018 21:34

@troubledlichen I wouldn’t be stingy on something that could harm my child Sad they weren’t linked to different filters at all, watch the programme and you see it was TT filters. My machine is checked monthly and has no issues, plus I have a well and happy 8 month old that’s clearly having no issues from it.

hayleys1 · 27/04/2018 21:52

Yes, they're amazing and worth every penny!!

TroubledLichen · 27/04/2018 22:11

From TT in a statement relating to the mouldy pipes: ‘some parents have told us they've used ordinary water jug filters instead of the Tommee Tippee filters. Standard filters do not contain the ultra-filtration membrane needed to remove bacteria, plus are more likely to release carbon into the system.’
Can’t get the link to work but that’s lifted from the related BBC news story.

So no, I personally wouldn’t use other filters nor would I recommend them to anyone. I had the TT filters on Amazon subscribe and save which made them a lot cheaper. But as always your child your choice, I agree checking the pipes and cleaning regularly is the most important thing.

LuluJakey1 · 27/04/2018 22:14

I loved it. We had it upstairs for night feeds with both of ours.

rebelrosie12 · 27/04/2018 22:18

They are amazing. Get one you will not regret it.

boymum9 · 27/04/2018 22:22

Definitely worth it!

shirleyschmidt1 · 27/04/2018 22:40

In my opinion they are an absolute must. Worth every single penny in saved hassle, you must do it!

xoguineas · 27/04/2018 23:07

My HV told me the perfect prep machine wasn't good at all, she said it doesn't use enough hot water to make sure the milk is properly sterile Confused

We just boil the kettle before bed and keep it in a flask for night feeds!

Xansaf · 28/04/2018 01:34

I love how most of the people bashing it because it’s not safe or whatever are making up bottles and storing them in the fridge or using water out of a flask (which doesn’t keep water at boiling temperature) - not the recommendation at all these days!

I would get one, it saves so much palaver of waiting for kettles to boil or for bottles to get to the right temperature when you’ve got a crying, hungry baby.

GinIsIn · 28/04/2018 01:44

It’s amazing! Those saying the water isn’t hot enough - I have a scar on my hand from being an idiot that begs to differ!!

xoguineas · 28/04/2018 08:35

@Xansaf actually you can get flasks that keep water about 70 so just letting OP know there are other, les expensive options!

mrsoutnumbered · 28/04/2018 09:15

I used one for my 3rd child and loved it. Please buy the TT filters though - any other filter will not clean the water in the same way.

xoguineas · 28/04/2018 09:16

*above not about

Nopointinnamechanging2018 · 28/04/2018 09:33

Probably the best money I've ever spent! It's an absolute lifesaver.

ImgoingtoSHABOOMS · 28/04/2018 09:37

Worth every penny. Had it in kitchen in the day and set up on a little table in bedroom at night- made night feeds so much easier .

They're much safer than pre making, all you have to do is use common sense and make sure you use fresh water every day and change filters regularly. They're often on offer too so worth shopping around.

mehhh · 28/04/2018 09:42

Worth every penny!!

Needingsomeadvice · 28/04/2018 09:49

My kids are 8 and 11 now, so obviously a while ago for me, and before the days of Perfect Prep (but still at a time we knew about needing to make up bottles with boiling water to kill the bacteria).
I had a fridge with a crushed ice maker. I would make up the bottle fresh, then cool down quickly with the ice. For convenience I also had a stash of ready made cartons.
