Will I really need a double buggy?

Dc2 due soon and dc1 will be approx 20 months when baby arrives and I'm really not sure if I need to get a double buggy?? Can anyone with 2 under 2 advise?!

DC1 refuses the buggy unless really tired, most of the time and would rather be running about everywhere on reins. Also the ones I've looked at all seem a bit of an odd set up where one child faces the back of a chair or they are virtually on the ground and DC1 is already in aged 3 clothes with huge legs so not sure how long it would last! The bugaboo double is the only one that really looks good but also £1,150 and seems wasteful if I can make do without.

Plus the narrow pavements around here are already a problem and I think I'd struggle with a double and would be better off with a good baby carrier and my current buggy.

Any help would be appreciated Smile

I wish I hadn't bothered and waited a bit. My Youngest hated being in pushchair so she was in the sling 90% of the time. By the time she wanted to be in pushchair more my oldest was happy to walk or could have used a buggy board.

I wish I had waited at least until baby could sit up so there was more choice in what to buy.

I had a similar age gap with my eldest reluctant to go in the buggy. However I found my double city mini jogger invaluable. It was brilliant, so easy to manoeuvre even round shops. Feel quite nostalgic thinking about that buggy - it was that good!

I have a 27 month gap and no double, just reins. We do a just under 10 minute walk each way for the school run and he copes very well.

DC are 4 months and 26 months now. We have a 2nd hand Mountain Buggy Duet which is invaluable. We are out and about all day so both need to sleep. The baby won't sleep in the sling for more than 30 minutes at a time and the toddler still likes a good 90 minutes to any hour so I couldn't be without it.

We got it from friends who had a 2.5 year gap and used it for 6 months until their elder one stopped napping. Once DS stops napping we'll ditch it but have to have it till then.

If I was you I'd either get a double stroller or a vest in a icandy double you can literally just take the extra seat off and boom you have a single ! There quite pricey but I've seen full sets with carry cots the lot for around 200 which is really good x

Following. We have a double and it's a nightmare!

I’m in the same situation, baby due in 2 weeks and still no double buggy!
I’ve been looking at Phil and teds models, mainly sport. I’ve found one that I’m not sure what model it is but has the second seat underneath, can anyone tell me if you have to have a newborn coocoon seat thing for a newborn or can they go in the seat as is?

23 months between my two. I had a cheap side-by-side double buggy from Morhercare for a few months and then had a buggy board with a little seat which was great when dd got tired. I could probably have done the sling/single buggy combo but my back and pelvis were in pieces after ds.

Due dc2, will be 2y9m apart. Not planning to get a double, plan to have baby in sling for first few months at least. But can envisage the times where restraint is required like pps have said! So will keep an open mind and use helpful suggestions here in looking for a second hand if needed.

We have exactly the same age gap as you, and our 20 month old HATED the buggy - for us a double buggy would have been a total waste of money, plus too cumbersome for pushing around town/to and from nursery. We managed to get out and about with a combination of sling and buggy board. With the buggy board, I had to be persistent (I always brought the sling so I could use being clipped into the buggy as a threat for toddler Grin - though never had to actually do that). Now that the oldest is 3 I am really glad we didn’t get a double buggy, it wouldn’t have been right for us.
