Do you use washable nappies? Have you tried different kinds?

moopymoo · 14/05/2007 12:59

we had this a lot and tried various different makes and sizes of nappy until we hit on one that worked. think at this age we eneded up with a pampers sensitive thst they only seem to sell in boots. also, using a liner can help. and make sure his willy is tucked in pointing down. hth

im using nature babes that are plenty big enough ans his willys pointing down too. but he leaked 3 times last night

Have you tried a wool wrap or similar?

I'm sorry I don't have any better advise for you, my DS night time nappies also leak most nights if we use cloth nappies but not in disposables....

pinkum · 14/05/2007 15:15

i was thinking of cutting pads out of nappies hes grown out of and putting them in the sides of the nappie hes wearing?

With both mine I have ended up using Pampers Active Fit at night as they seem most leakproof although I use Moltex or own brand in the day, depending on how organised I was when shopping!

pinkum · 14/05/2007 15:21

i was trying to avoid non biodegradable, though i havent got on with the washable ones (they get wet so quickly.)

Try Moltex cos I found them much more absorbent than Nature Baby. My ever cynical husband even tried pouring water on one and a Pampers to compare and there was no difference. The reason I go with Active Fit is cos the sides are more flexible so seem to deal better with wriggling.

I think Nature Baby are only about 70% biodegradable anyway so 3 of them vs 1 Pampers won't be that much different! (Could be wrong though!)

liath · 14/05/2007 15:24

I use moltex at night and washables during the day and they rarely leak. I've used nature baby once & found them a bit crap in comparison to moltex TBH. You could alternatively try something like a motherease wrap over the disposible.

shonaspurtle · 14/05/2007 15:27

I know you've just said you don't like reusables, but I use Tots Bots Fluffles at night and have found them great - v absorbant, boostable if you need them to be even more so, ultra soft and the fleece inner keeps the skin feeling quite dry. I've not had any night time leaks and ds (almost 6 months) goes 12 hours + easily in them. I use a Motherease Rikki wrap on top.

They're pretty bulky but as it's getting warmer I just put a pyjama top on ds - the Fluffle keeps his bottom half warm!

Might it be worth trying another type of reusable if you're not having any luck with disposibles?

Indith · 14/05/2007 15:37

pinkum I'm normally a washable user but I used naturebabies when at MIL for a weekend. I found that ds could soak through them at night but Tesco own brand seemed ok. I would try reusables again though, I know they feel like they get wet but ds is happy in reusable for much longer than a nature baby.

pinkum · 14/05/2007 15:41

i have got fluffles and motherease but the fluffles are massive and his clothes dont go over the top and the motherease get totaly soaked in no time.
its a good idea about the wrap over the top of the disposables though.
i only use nature babes as the moltex are expensive and hard to get hold of. whats the cheepest sight?
has anyone tried cutting booster pads out of reusables?

We used Nature babes and had this problem. I bought some of those plastic pants to put over them at night, it was the only solution we found.

Washersaurus · 14/05/2007 15:48

If you were to try washables at night again you could try microfibre booster pads between the nappy and the wrap. DS never experiences leaks with his night nappy when we do this - and they don't add too much bulk and are very very absorbant.

I think that some people just use those cheapy microfibre cloths that you can buy (available in all good poundshops I believe)

archiesmummy · 14/05/2007 16:28

Hi again pinkum,

It sounds to me like your DS is a heavy wetter and for us the only washable nappy that works during night is Minki Huggles with lots of extra boosters (we use Wonder Fulls 1 microfiber + 1 hemp snapped together) with a wool soaker or waterproof wrap or Huggies nappies also work great

sorkycake · 14/05/2007 16:58

I've just switched from Nature nappies to Ella's house bumhuggers on a night. They're a shaped pocket nappy with a fleece lining so baby stays dry when had a wee. The nappy part is hemp and very absorbant. I stuff mine with a bamboo booster to increase the absorbency for my ds who is a huge wetter.I prefer a red totsbots wrap, but I don't mind it being big and his sleepsuits cope fine over the top. It never leaks and never ceases to amaze me that his bum is totally dry but the nappy weighs about 3lbs in the morning through all the wee! It lasts 12 hours easy, which is more than I can say for the disposables.

archiesmummy · 14/05/2007 17:05

Just wanted to say that Bumhuggers leaked for us every time, sorkycake, but Minki Huggles didn't, so I suppose it all depends on the baby really

pinkum · 15/05/2007 09:21

i tried the motherease wrap over the naturebabes last night and it didnt leak but i think he didnt wee so much last night. i'll keep you posted. p.s anyone know the cheepest sight to get moltex?

Glad you had a dry night. I've not found one site cheaper for moltex but most do a discount if you bulk buy. I usually use spirit of nature. My sister got some cheaper than me but I think the site she used only delivers to London & the south. Can find the name if you want.
