Hi,
I've just bought some nearly new motherease and they are nice, clean and lovely BUT a little on the crunchy/ hard side.

I'm thinking if I wash them at 60 with no detergent and rise with a little vinegar? Would a quick tumble dry down at the launderette help too?If so would a low or high heat help? What keeps nappies soft?Advice please!

Tumble drying definitely helps and also adding white vinegar in the washing machine.

and 'for what it's worth'

(there's a link at the top of the page to the 'acronym list' whihc might help)

beckmo · 14/05/2007 12:44

Thanks Mrs B...I knew there was a list explaining these somewhere!

Looks like a trip to the launderette is in order...

Bang them against the wall, or rub then together hard. Great stress-buster too!!

Thanks everyone!
Horsemadgirl I have been slamming them against my living room wall and it really does work! They are loads softer. Can't quite bear to leave my new nappies out in the rain although i imagine it'll happen pretty soon by mistake!

Really cannot envision anyone bashing nappies against a wall ! Mine are out on the line for the 2nd night running....

beckmo · 16/05/2007 16:15

Lol.....I'm 37 weeks pregnant. It was the nappies or DH.

Don't usually tumble dry because it's expensive but last week I did my nappies in MIL's dryer and I think I'm hooked. They're sooooo soft and yummy!

fennel · 16/05/2007 16:28

Tumble drying does make them lovely and fluffy but if you are using real nappies for environmental reasons then you'll negate some of the benefit by tumble drying them.

We just used them crunchy.

Also they last better if you don't tumble dry them.

SleeplessInTheStaceym11House · 16/05/2007 17:23

i line dry my nappies and then shove in tumble for about 10 minutes on cool and they go soft.....do the same with all my clothes too just so they soft and completely dry...i dont like putting them crunchy on ds as he has sensitive skin so think this is better than tumbling all the time!

SpawnChorus · 16/05/2007 17:27

I've heard that a bit of white vinegar in the conditioner compartment can help. If you ever decide to try different nappies, fluffles are amazingly soft and uncrunchy. We don't have a tumble dryer either

SleeplessInTheStaceym11House · 16/05/2007 17:32

i want fluffles but dh wont let me buy more nappies [sulking emoticon!]

accessorizewithbabysick · 16/05/2007 19:46

I must say, my fluffles are still soft & lovely & we're in a hard water area. But they're not a natural fibre so I don't think I'd want to use them as much in hot weather.

I would love to stick mine in a dryer, wonder if the neighbours would oblige! Just now and again. I hate the fact all my towels are crunchy too, maybe I'll put them out in the rain too!

Bekmo, visions of you slamming nappies against the wall whilst thinking of your dh!

beckmo · 17/05/2007 12:57

Hmmm...is it worth seeing the MIL more to take the odd sneaky cadge of her tumble drier to fluff up my nappies now and again?

Possibly not.I think they will have to stay slightly crunchy.Actually, now I have vinegared them they are much softer -its just I was given a trial bamboozle and next to that my MEOS feel like cardboard.Must not sucumb and buy more nappies...but they are soooo soft!

The rain, I tell you, the rain!!! Took mine in last night, vast improvement. Think I'll do it every time it rains from now on.
Or the MIL's dryer, wish I had one I could borrow but MIL an hour away...

pinkspottywellies · 17/05/2007 20:22

Just been to MIL's today and done another load
Damn my carbon footprint!

beckmo · 18/05/2007 08:01

Was that 3 days you had them out in the rain AWBS?! The baby isn't here yet and it is due first week in June. Would say it'll be too sunny then but looking out the window I'm not convinced....

2 days overnight soaking I think beckmo. I can really notice the difference between the ones that went out in the rain and the others. Another wash with no detergent might help too? I'm sure there will be a few more rainy days between now and your due date!
