Quick question about cheese

DD is 6 months old, and we have started weaning. So far, she has had a variety of fruit and veg purees, which she has enjoyed. I'd like to give her the opportunity to have a go at feeding herself; is it ok to give her a Dairy Lea triangle to try? TIA

Why, is there something harmful for babies in Dairy Lea?

my ds liked regular cheddar from about 6 mths - still adores it, in fact

Rantum · 13/05/2007 17:25

Don't think there is anything harmful, but it is processed quite heavily.

lissielou · 13/05/2007 17:25

not really harmful (i dont think) but normal cheese is just as good, less messy and better for self feeding

Nbg · 13/05/2007 17:26

or how about philidelphia on some toast?

lissielou · 13/05/2007 17:26

and less processed as rantum says

much as I love a dairy lea triangle, why not start off on a small amount of grated mild cheddar? she'll like picking up the little bits (or throwing them on the floor)

Although it says no artificial colours or preservatives it has got salt in it so I would wait til baby is older.

Grated cheddar is a good suggestion. Cheese strings are popular because they are 100% cheese.

Its a good habit to get into giving cheese at the end of the meal - British Dental Health Foundation explains this helps to rebalance the chemicals in the mouth after eating and so minimise the damage to teeth.

Dairy Lea

normal cheese also contains salt. they recommend a cheese that is soft enough to gum, but won't break up to cause gagging.
