Bed for dd 2.5

Dd is 2.5 and still in her cot. She sleeps well in it, and has never attempted to climb out so haven’t had any reason to change.

But she’s getting a bit long for it now. And I’m pregnant with dc2 and finding it increasingly a struggle to lift her in. So I think it’s time for a bed.

But not sure what to get. Should I bother with a toddler bed or just go straight for a standard single?

Any recommendations? Her favourite thing to do is jump. So it needs to be robust!

If she’s too long for a cot, will she get much use out of a toddler bed? You might be better with a regular bed. Yiu coukd always put a bed guard on it.

That’s what I was thinking jilted. Don’t want to get a bed she grows out of in 6 months. But wondered if I’d missed something about toddler beds!

If you're worried about jumping/falling, you could just put her on a mattress on the floor until she's a bit older? That's what we did with DS because he was a massive wriggler in the cot.

Toddler beds are very cute, but I also don't see the point. Plus, if she's poorly and you need to lie with her, you'll struggle with a toddler bed!

We put our son in a toddler bed pre-2yrs. We have a Baby Dan bed guard and it’s actually twin beds where one fold underneath, so we have that one pulled out a bit to use as a step/crash barrier! He’s an incredibly restless sleeper but has yet to fall out...

Don't bother with a toddler bed; get a normal bed as generations have before. If DC is particularly restless put a landing pad on the floor or a pool noodle under the exposed side of the mattress or similar cheap and short term fix.

Just get a single bed.

We did this with ds1. Had a cot, then a toddler bed, then just got a single bed and it will last him now till he's older.

Thanks all, single bed it is then! I knew toddler bed was just a marketing swizz, but was doubting myself.

We have a cot bed so it turned into a low to the floor bed for our son which we've used from about 2 and a half years. There is still loads of room left in it length wise so we wont be buying him a big single yet. He has slept in single beds at Centre Parcs but I worry about him falling out as he has done this at home several times but its only a short drop to the floor at home!
