I struggle to get excited about boy-stuff, lego starships and the like. And Thomas is a feckin' train, FGS. How exciting can that be?

As I've got 4 boys I need to get into this stuff.

Come on all you mothers of girls. Make me with your play experiences.

BTW. Lest anyone accuse me of gender stereotyping, I do have a ragdoll in a highchair that DS3 (2) likes playing with.

My dh lets my boys (and my girl) loose with real hammers and saws. At first I was horrified by then I relaxed and was so impressed when they made a cafe for the patio last summer. It had a sign saying 'Lizard Cafe' as well as a bench, table, see saw and swing. You could really sit on the bench and eat at the table. It was amazing and they don't saw off their hands etc.

Have you read the Continuum Concept? It's all true.

Those jigsaw things from ELC, can never find the dog/cat's bits anywhere...

ChaCha · 12/05/2007 21:25

spidermama - Amazing, wow!! Having a browse at what you just mentioned.

I was a bit disappointed when I found out this one was going to be a boy, as I love everything pink and girly, and was looking forward to doing baking together, dressing her up and stuff.

I'm finding it hard to get enthusiastic about boys stuff- diggers, bob the builder and all that. I'm kinda hoping I can get him into animals, I loved my model farm and zoo when I was little, and it's a nice interest to have.

I really hope bratz dolls aren't as popular by the time I do have a girl, they look so slutty. Even the horses have seductive eyes! Madness.

foxybrown · 12/05/2007 21:35

My boys love baking and dressing up (ok, its as spiderman and power rangers) but then so does my daughter who is only 2.6 .

I was so careful about what DS1 (5.5) was exposed to, but going to school changed it all. Now they are all at it and I'm just heaving a big sigh and resigning myself to it all!

unknownrebelbang · 12/05/2007 21:36

You can still bake with boys.

My eldest and youngest love doing stuff in the kitchen.

LittleMouseWithCLogsOn · 12/05/2007 21:36

ds1 traines and diggers

ds2 fire engines and trians to a degree
ds3 wild animals NOT trains at all

NONE of them into dinosaurs or cars

LittleMouseWithCLogsOn · 12/05/2007 21:37

girls are dull

ChaCha · 12/05/2007 21:38

spidermama - are you around? have had a quick look at the articles on Continuum Concept - would like to know your views, maybe on anothe thread so as not to gatecrash this one

Bubble99 · 12/05/2007 21:38

Girls toys are another country to me, TBH.

I must admit to looking longingly at the girls clothes in shops, though.

Bratz are the big make-up'd eyes dolls?

Badly applied make-up to a model head thingy is OK, IMO.

Expertly printed/applied make-up on a doll is another.

oh God, we are into dinosaurs in a big way here... and cars.
But also he loves animals too - has lion, tiger and cheetah (plastic) rom ELC that he loves

lyrabelacqua · 12/05/2007 21:39

I've got two boys, all they want to do it broom cars around the road playmat. They do that stuff with Daddy. They ask me to play but I can only manage it for about 3 minutes.
I do all the creative stuff with them, like colouring or baking, and dp does all the boy stuff like football and cars.

Not all girls are dull, depends on the child.

I do find it a bit disconcerting that the girls I see when I'm helping at Beavers and Cubs often seem to latch on to me, got a particular little shadow at beavers at the moment, lol.

NeedToBeAnon · 12/05/2007 21:44

have 2 boys 4 and 2 and cannot imagine havign girls' toys

Ds1 likes trains, puzzles, dressing up (superheroes), lego, playmobil
ds2 loves cars, cars and more cars and increasingy ds1's playmobil, bob the builder vehicles and wooden animals

polly pockets and 'hair' would drive me potty

colditz · 12/05/2007 21:44

ds1 has started running round 'shooting' people and shouting "Powpowpow crrrrrrshhhhkm dodododododododo powpowpow PWHHHHHSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHKKKK!"

thedogsbollox · 12/05/2007 21:45

I've one of each.

Whilst I admit that it has been more of a struggle to find common ground with DS than DD, I quite enjoy a bit of lego building and playmobil castles and knights.

The biggest transformation though is that I am now more familiar with English football than I care to be, and know all the members of the English rugby team! Not bad for a Scot

I still find watching football on the tv mindlessly boring, but I suppose we all have to do things we'd rather not in the name of smooth family relations!

booge · 12/05/2007 21:47

DD will be a tomboy I can't stand pink and I don't do dolls.

booge · 12/05/2007 21:49

Oh yes that's a point I won't be watching football with DS either, cricket or rugby perhaps.
