We have just started toilet training properly today with DD (ie she is now in knickers, not nappies) but I cant remember what I did with DS regarding lunch time naps.

Do I just make sure she uses the toilet before she goes for her nap and then again straight afterwards or do I for now put a nappy on her to sleep (call it a sleeping nappy or something) or will that just confuse her?

Ds is only 6 so i'm rather ashamed to admit that ic an't remember what we did but I really can't, and neither can DH.

TIA

I'm sure that in the first few weeks of toilet training we had a "nap nappy" and I seem to remember "travel nappys" too for long car journeys! Didn't last long. Once they were dry when she woke up or I forgot to put them on we stopped

thanks McDreamy.

Anybody else do that too?

DD has just gone to bed and she didn't want to have a nappy put on, bless her.

DH just went upstairs and realised that DD was still awake (she's normally have been snoring within 5 mins) and she sat up and said "toilet. toilet".
Dh just told her to go back to sleep as she had her night time nappy on. Was that the right thing to do or should we have got her up for another wee do you think?

bump again please. DD just gone for a nap and she's doing so well so far with knickers on and didn't want to have a 'sleep nappy' put on. This is only day 2 though of toilet training so i thought I'd better insist. Right or wrong?

I suppose it depends how ready you are to deal with accidents. When I potty-trained ds we went straight to nappiless naps, but I bought a waterproof sheet (hippychick one) just incase, and always got him to do a wee just before hand. He had a couple of accidents, but was fine after that.

As for needing a wee once your dd was in bed, I think I'd have just whipped her out onto the potty, let her wee and then put her back to bed. It just seems sensible since she is giving you the signal.

She sounds like she's doing really well. Good luck!

thanks for the reply gladbag.
I do have a waterproof sheet (used it with DS) so i'll get that out later and then not worry tomorrow.
I also have a piddle pad but when i tried to put it in the car seat when we went out this morning DD flipped and refused to sit on it! Let's hope her bladder control is good

gladbag, did you dcs often wake up during daytime naps for a wee? or did they just wee once they woke up usually.

Sorry just seen this. Ds never wakes up during his nap for a wee. He used to sometimes wake up from his nap (after a couple of hours), get out of bed and whilst still v sleepy, wee on the floor, but I learnt to whisk him to the loo as soon as he awoke. Once you get into the habit of going just before, and just after, it's not a problem. HTH!

kittypants · 13/05/2007 14:46

if shes asking to nap with no nappy give it a try.

FrayedKnot · 13/05/2007 14:57

mckenzie I ditched DS' nappy for naps but I did insist he went right before he napped for several months, it became part of teh routine, story, then wee, then into bed

mckenzie · 13/05/2007 16:13

thanks all. I'll try that tomorrow.
We've just been out and at least this time I managed to get her into her carseat without her seeing the piddle pad so that won't become an issue (I hope).

Ds is only 6 so you'd think i would remember all of this from before wouldn't you but i can't remember a thing

DD didn't want her nappy on for her lunchtime nap today and she was dry when she woke so thanks for your advice on that one
