Can baby be in bathroom while I bathe?

Perhaps a silly question but I'm new at being a mum! DH is out and DS (2 months old) has dozed off in his rocker. AIBU to think I could put his rocker on the floor beside the bathtub while I have a soak in the bath for an hour? The bathroom is warm (underfloor heating) and I'll get out if he wakes up and cries. But I'm (possibly irrationally) worried about whether the steam will affect him or whether there's something else I don't know about that makes this a bad idea?

It’s fine, enjoy your bath

TittyGolightly · 14/04/2018 21:08

Steam is great for babies. Go for it.

Fitzsimmons · 14/04/2018 21:09

Do it. Honestly it sounds better than the time I had to lay my 8 week old on a changing mat on the bathroom floor whilst I sat on the loo with a bucket having D&V. My DS survived Grin Your baby will be fine.

I've had my DS in the bathroom while I shower since he was born either in Moses basket and then bouncy chair so can't see why it would be an issue to have a bath with him in there. You could always leave the door open for s little bit of fresh air.

pastabest · 14/04/2018 21:10

The only thing that makes it a bad idea is moving a sleeping baby. I doubt you will get an hour in the bath if you do that Grin

Other than that, no problem at all!

FridayNightFun · 14/04/2018 21:10

Mine have spent many hours in the bathroom while I shower/bath... go for it!

isittheholidaysyet · 14/04/2018 21:10

Yes that's how you do it.

When he's bigger and rolling, just clear the bathroom floor so it's all babyproof, and give him some toys.

DramaAlpaca · 14/04/2018 21:11

I hope you are currently enjoying a lovely soak OP!

I have very fond memories of doing this with dd (we had a lovely big bathroom then) with her either sleeping or awake. When she was awake I'd sing along to the radio to her - the funny thing is she still likes some of those songs now and is sometimes puzzled how she knows them - she's 17 now.

And the steam won't hurt at all.

Ski40 · 14/04/2018 21:15

I did that all the time. Leave the door open if the steam worries you. Enjoy 😊

liquidrevolution · 14/04/2018 21:20

Christ I used to have DD with me in the shower. I would wash her first then wrap her in a towel and leave her snuggled up in the sink while I had my shower. She survived.

Enjoy your bath.

You wait till baby is older and insists on sinisterly staring at you through the shower glass while numbering 'I'm watching you mummy' under their breath Hmm

TinaTop · 14/04/2018 22:18

Thanks all. Had a lovely bath until DS woke up!

my baby is nearly 1yo and when daddy is away 2/3 year most of my baths/showers involve him standing at the side of the bath laughing, trying to touch the water, crying, dropping things he's found in the bath (inc iphone Angry). and he used to sit in his bouncy chair (seems like a long time ago) before that but he's not much of a sleeper.

notangelinajolie · 14/04/2018 22:24

Oh yes. Absolutely do it. I had lots of lovely long soaks in the bath while my DD's slept in the rocker next to me. Only problem with letting them share your bath time is that they never actually grow out of it. Mine are all grown up now but the still wander into the bathroom when I'm in the bath for a chat.

IfYouDontImagineNothingHappens · 14/04/2018 22:36

God yes! Do it. Every day if you want. That's how I had a shower every single day for months and months. Baby in bouncer, in sight of me. Nice hair wash, etc for me. Bouncer basically lived in the bathroom for that purpose.

Elmersnewfriend · 14/04/2018 22:58

Haha Liquid, that made me laugh- yes absolutely make the most of it while they won't do that or try to climb in "because I love you so much mummy!!"

Fightthebear · 14/04/2018 23:02

I used to take DS2 in the bath with me. Until he pooed on me and I realised the chair beside the bath was safer for everyone Shock
