Sterilising on Holiday??

Hi, I'm off on holiday abroad next week with my 4 month old DD, and I'm unsure with what to do about sterilising her bottles? We'll have a dishwasher, but I'm not 100% sure if we have a microwave.
Any suggestions? Smile

Take Milton tablets with you and either take a suitable tub or make do with something out there?
Or boil in a saucepan?

YerAuntFanny · 14/04/2018 20:51

Running them through the dishwasher is enough as it reaches high temperatures during washing then steams dry.

Boiled water in a saucepan. Most dishwashers don’t reach higher than 60 degrees, which isn’t high enough for an unweaned babys

Sterilising tablets have always been my holiday go to.

mummabubs · 14/04/2018 20:55

I had this question too as my son is 6 months old and we're off on holiday in a few weeks. I exclusively express his feeds as he's never latched and unlike the bottles my pump can't be sterilised in the microwave. I was going to take bottles of Milton solution with us but didn't realise you can get tablets- winner!

I was going to suggest microwave sterilizing bags but I see that you may not have one. A shame as they are cheap and easy.

LIZS · 14/04/2018 21:06

Can you still get cold water sterilising bags, you fill with tap water to dissolve the tablet and hang over shower or bath. Or use milton and an old ice cream tub or plastic container with lid.

GrumpySusan · 14/04/2018 21:16

Could you take a Milton bucket and tablets? Bit bulky but you could pack stuff inside it! Not sure if a dishwasher sterilises.

GrumpySusan · 14/04/2018 21:17

Oh sorry I was a bit delayed in posting!

Makingworkwork · 14/04/2018 21:21

I took Tupperware tub (in suitcase I left them with the lid of and packed into them) and used cold water sterilising tablets.

I thought the current advise was you don’t need to sterilise if you are using breast milk.

theothersideoftheworld · 14/04/2018 21:21

You can get sterilising bags from boots. I used these all the time , really small and easy to pack

Faintlinesquints · 14/04/2018 21:22

I was going to suggest Milton tablets too, take a Tupperware box or bags which you could use in the microwave if there is one, or use to cold water sterilise if there isn’t.

Use tongs, or take disposable gloves when using Milton, when dd was in special care they used Milton and when I was expressing for dd the skin was literally coming off my hands!

Thanks everyone, you've all been a huge help and I've ordered some Milton tablets! 👍🏼

We have a VERY large Tupperware and pack all the bottles, formula etc in it then use sterilising tablets in the Tupperware as others have suggested. Has always worked well.

Teenytinyvoice · 14/04/2018 21:29

You can measure the amount of water needed for a Milton tablet into your tub, then draw a line with a permanent marker. Then you are all set even if there is no measuring jug!

mummabubs · 15/04/2018 12:55

@Makingworkwork I've heard mixed advice around this- my local LLL group told me I wouldn't need to sterilise from 6 months but when I went to my NHS weaning workshop a few weeks later they said I definitely do still need to sterilise 🙈
