I am having to sell my reuseables because ds2's skin looked terrible after weraing them. I guess they don't suit everyone.

Hi sorky, I would first put a barrier cream on his bottom, I like three bees by Magic Fairy (it has a vasaline consistancy and tends to allow any rednesss to heal quickly) or if you have any Lansinoh in this is also good. Have you any liners you can place in the bed wetters? Fleece would be good but a disp one would also work. Were they dirty or just wet this morning?

Really truly soaking wet. Every morning it's the same. He's just not ready (3.5) to go without, we've tried it. He was wearing spiderman pull up thingies which obviously took all the wet away from his skin. I'm happy to be using the cloth but his bum is sore and I feel guilty. Do you think a fleece liner would work? Would his skin stay dry and the wee soak through to the nappy underneath?
Do you sell any fleecey liners I could use in them sbn?

Are you using vaseline? It really is just the thing

Hi Sorky, if it's well and truly soaking then maybe you are right and he isn't ready, you could try a fleece liner (I do have them on the site) but if he is swimming in wee it may not be the best idea. Do you have any night time reusables for him? If not what size is he, a large Bumhugger with the trainer pants over the top may be a good solution untill he's a bit more ready.

I agree with the others...

thickly apply a barrier cream...
and use a fleece liner (you can cut one up yourself from an old fleece throw or jumper etc.)

If his bum is really sore a silk liner may help heal it, they have magical properties and are not as expensive as they sound, you could just buy one and use it overnight and use the barrier cream during the day

I would consider a reaction to the washing detergent you are using. You might need to do a couple of washes without detergent to get rid of any build-up initially and then use a very small quanitity to wash them in future. You might also need to change to a different brand. What are you using at the moment? IME Fairy and Ecover are particularly likely to cause a rash.

Wetness in itself shouldn't cause a problem IMHO, but the wetness will dissolve detergent residue in the nappy so that the child's skin is constantly bathed in a dilute solution of it - hence the rash.

Just an update.
He went to bed last night and waddya know this morning he was completely dry!
He went with a barrier cream and a bamboo booster. I'm not sure why it would be the washing powder as I've used it for years and never had a problem. The old washable pants we had weren't waterproof and leaked onto his pj's and the bed so I'm thinking maybe the bedwetters are doing to good of a job and keeping all the wee next to his skin. I'm going to try a bumhugger on him as that has a fleece lining and keeping using a barrier cream until it clears. Thanks for all the replies, it's much appreciated. x
